March 8, 20179 yr A buddy said that Coach Shields was in tears at the final buzzer. He was with several alumni that I know that graduated in the 70's at Dickman's last night. My sister was down there and said the same thing. Coach Shields has always been a stand-up guy and started made the program what it is. He made back-to-back DII National Championship appearances back when the school was still growing and not like it is today. I remember sitting with him a few years ago at a high school game and just talking all the Xs and Os with him and was honored that I could even keep a conversation going with him about basketball. The Norse are putting NKY on the map!
March 8, 20179 yr NKU fans need to cheer for Lehigh to beat Bucknell today Also, Albany over Vermont (America East). I'm hoping for a 14, but need 8-10 teams with higher RPI than 89. Possible, but not probable.
March 8, 20179 yr It is still crazy to me how this turned out. I was an alumni against the move to D1 , and I was 100% wrong. Never been so happy to be wrong. The fact they return everyone but Murray for next season is crazy. I might buy season tickets and give most to friends just so I have the seat I want when I'm in town. Nice move to admit you were wrong. Most people wouldn't do this.
March 8, 20179 yr Looks like the lumps taken while waiting to be ncaa elgible paid off in a big way. Certainly a huge win for this university, its students, alumanus, its community, its players and its coaches. Also, it just seems even better with homegrown talent across the board with players and coaches. Congratulations You can't buy the publicity this will bring for the university and the area. It was great that all of greater Cincinnati was rooting for them.

March 8, 20179 yr I think there's about a 95% chance they match them up against UofL or UK, which sucks. Agree it sucks, BUT, if you are going to lose, at least lose to a big dog. The players can then say 40 years from now they lost to UK, not some team people then might not even know.

To put it in perspective, Northwestern made it into the tourney this year for the first time in their schools history and they've been around forever which would include every year the NCAA tournament was a tournament. I do have to admit after watching them last night, yikes, their first dance could be an ugly one lol.

To put it in perspective, Northwestern made it into the tourney this year for the first time in their schools history and they've been around forever which would include every year the NCAA tournament was a tournament. I do have to admit after watching them last night, yikes, their first dance could be an ugly one lol. Last night was not indicative of how this team plays. They normally play about 9 guys, and all get significant minutes, and there's little drop off. Last night, both teams went down fighting with their best five guys, and they were gassed. Williams played 35 minutes (averages 24/game); I doubt there's been a game all year he's played 30. Murray played 36, averages 28. And it was their third game in 3 games. Heavy legs. Brannen "danced with the girl he brung". Not sure he subbed the last eight minutes. Kudos. That said, they're not beating UK/UL, but they play crisper than what you saw.

March 8, 20179 yr John is a great coach and great recruiter and is the right guy I just hope he stays and NKU can figure a way to keep him.
