Officials that need to retire

Featured Replies

There are a few in the 9th that have lost a step or two and might need to hang it up. Appreciate their efforts but it's probably time to go. There is also one that thinks we all came to watch him. Too much showboating and interaction with the fans. Shut up and call the game! No names given because I know they are trying their best.

Really good official.

This thread is evidence of the demise of BGP. I've been an on and off visitor since it's inception. This kind of junk never used to happen. If you think you can do better get a whistle!!

Pathetic.

While I don't disagree one bit; I also don't and never have understood why officials are protected compared to coaches.

Now...I'm not saying one bit that people need to come on here calling for officials to resign; however, I've seen plenty of threads over the years questioning officials that are quickly put to a stop.

On the other hand; you & I both know that questioning COACHES (high school coaches) is a favorite past time.

Both (along with teachers & the POTUS/other government officials) are the jobs that EVERYBODY thinks they can do better than who is doing it, but fail (most of the time) to step forward and take it on.

Calling for officials to resign along with coaches on here are one in the same in my book (not insinuating you don't/wouldn't feel the same; just my 2 cents).

Every call an official makes is wrong in the eyes of many people watching, no matter which way the official calls it.

I've barked and complained about referees more times than I should have over the years while watching games but I still appreciate what they do. It's just a natural reaction to applaud some calls a boo at others. I suppose that's as much a part of the game as the game itself.

Someone has to officiate and I'm thankful there's people willing to do the job. My brother has officiated for 28 years. He's slowed down as he's gotten older but I still think he does a good job (of course I'm biased:smug:).

I know one thing for certain, I wouldn't do the job for any amount of money. I've called a few middle school games in my younger days and I learned very early in my life that wasn't going to be a side job in my future. Those fellows have a tough job, and they have to love it to keep doing it.

There are 3 pairs of eyes of watching at floor level. There 100s of pairs in the stands who are watching every bit of action across the entire floor. Yeah, they will miss a few.

Really good official.

We will agree to disagree Clyde. How do you even know who I'm talking about? ?

Several in the 4th region that need to go, game is to fast for 60 year old men trying to keep up with the young fast players

I find it rather funny that you knew exactly who I was talking about without naming him. Obviously his reputation precedes him.

We have been friends, for a long time, I also understand your point, I still believe he's a good official.

We have the old officials because there are not enough good young ones to replace them.

I don't know about forced retirement, with the exception being physically unable to do the job, but there needs to be a LOT more supervision and oversight. On the girls side, we had an opponent throw a punch (missed) in full view of an official, who stopped the game to give her a WARNING! Because this official chose not to properly enforce the rule, which requires disqualification, this same player threw a second punch to the head and connected. The player was given a technical, but not ejected.

It is my understanding that officials are only evaluated by their coaches in their own region. Out of region opponents have no say in the performance of officials. This has to change.

Furthermore, more game tapes need to evaluated with officials being corrected, and disciplined for performance. There absolutely needs to be more evaluation and correction of officiating. Maybe KHSAA can address this with the revenue from 5$ cokes at state events!

I think that is is terrible to call for the retirement of officials and use their names. Disagree with their calls all you want but to call them out to retire is a slap in the face of many years of their devoted service to the teams we all love to watch. Without them, we have no game.

Same could be said about coaches.

And the players - who IMO are the most important stakeholders in the game but often get lost in the posturing and indignancies about the adults who coach/ref/watch.

And some forget they are just high school kids.
