So go ahead and knock the men/women who wear the Stripes if you wish but remember this, there are no games without Stripes and if you think one or two of them are so bad, then I am sure the person in charge, will be more than happy for you to put the stripes on and give it a go doing a game.

 

Easy to sit up in the stands and complain and second guess, it's another thing to put on the shirt and do it!

This thread is evidence of the demise of BGP. I've been an on and off visitor since it's inception. This kind of junk never used to happen. If you think you can do better get a whistle!!

It's 5:30pm on a Friday, and there are about 350 people who are interested enough in this site to be logged on and reading up on Kentucky sports and other topics.

 

 

We have a basic set of rules here on BGP, which we do our best to diligently enforce. Our policy as BGP staffers is to moderate the rules and not to censor. I can say confidently that there are no violations to the rules or terms of service that have occurred in this thread. I can say that because I've been following this thread since it was originally posted a couple of hours ago, and I read every post in this thread to make sure they are not in violation.

 

Personally, I'm not much for the topic of this thread. There are officials in all of our high school sports who are better than others, and by that logic, there are officials in all of our high school sports who are worse than others. Nature of the beast. Would *I* call out a specific official and tell him/her that I think their time for retirement is here...absolutely not. Frankly, I'm pretty damn grateful for every one of our officials around the state, because they are among the many people whose effort is required in order for me to go out and watch a game when I have the chance.

 

If someone else feels the need to clear the air and share their feelings about an official, then they are welcome to do so as long as it's done within our rules - but that's on them, and they can do so at the risk of having their opinions judged by others, just as they are judging the value of our the officials who oversee our games.

They do try their best, but some of them are just so consistently bad. Some of them I feel bad for because they look so lost.

Good points. People also need to be reminded that the alternative is not enough officials and games cancelled. You couldn't pay me enough to get out there and do that job.

 

Let me add this: When I sit watching a game that involves the team I root for, I think "Man, these guys are terrible."

But then I sit and watch a game involving two teams which I have no attachment to, and almost always there are a lot less calls that I view as bad. #perspective

Officiating has been debated as long as mr naismith vented the game. Believe it or not, it's fun to ref a big game. People will always complain- it's the nature of passionate fans. But really, discussing bad officials in the minds of fans is fun but irrelevant. It is what it is. Entertainment.

It's our society. Everybody has a voice, thanks to technology, and civility, good manners and discretion, are gone.

 

People says things online that they wouldn't say to someone's face. My brother and our first cousin fell out over stupid political comments on Fecebook. It would have never happened in person.

I'm not for slamming anybody, and I know officiating is a challenging job.

That said - they are getting paid, and all anyone is asking for is a competent job.

 

Officials have a material impact on the game, and the fact that they are never interviewed about their performance/calls is a little odd, especially in this era of accountability and "transparency."

 

It might help if people point out the officials they think do a consistently good job, too.
