Season will begin a week later next year

Featured Replies

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association board of control reviewed 21 proposals that will be considered by member schools at the annual delegate assembly meeting and voted to move the start of the football season back a week the next two years.

The proposal would require that a student spend the seventh and eighth grade in a high school's "affiliated" junior high to be eligible for sports upon entering ninth grade. (For instance, an incoming freshman at Trinity or Assumption would have to come from an Archdiocese of Louisville school. Otherwise, the student would be ineligible for sports for one year at any level. The same would hold true if a student went to a Catholic middle school and then entered a public school as a freshman

And I just wonder how many minutes (note, I didn't say hours or days) it will take, before someones lawyer files a law suit over this rule.

Good.

Too bad. I like all the undivided attention that we get from the Cincinnati media outlets in that first week before the Cincy HS teams start playing.

This also pushes the season back a week and it wil be miserable sitting out side teh second week of December. They should have just gotten rid of the bye week like Ken Trivett suggested.

I agree the bye week should have gone if this really does push the state finals back to the second week of December. Is this a done deal, and if so, does that mean that two-a-days, etc. also start a week later?

No to mention it cuts into the winter sports calendar another week.

An extra week! LOL it is hard enough to wait!

Saw and read about this in yesterday newspaper, I think it's a good idea.

Perhaps. But they shoulda implemented it a year later, many schools have thier schedules set already.

If they do it is there own fault. All schools were told to not begin scheduling till after October 1.

Im sure this will have an impact in areas not obvious to me at this point, but I am delighted to hear the start date for football has been pushed back...now get rid of the bye week too!

More fuel for the short sighted type coach to try and persuade the basketball athlete not to play football. It's a terrible idea.
