Jeff Sessions: Non-religious people shouldn’t be in government because they ‘can’t ascertain truth

Jay Michaelson of The Daily Beast recalls a speech Sessions gave after receiving an award from far-right activist David Horowitz, where he claimed that “freedom of speech” depends on one’s ability to ascertain “the truth.”

“And if you don’t believe there’s a truth, you don’t believe in truth, if you’re an utter secularist, then how do we operate this government?” Sessions said. “How can we form a democracy of the kind I think you and I believe in… I do believe that we are a nation that, without God, there is no truth, and it’s all about power, ideology, advancement, agenda, not doing the public service.”

According to Michaelson, the speech has not been reported on by the media. During Sessions’ confirmation hearing this week, none of the senators brought it up during their questioning.

This kind of thinking scares me.

What a crock!

This kind of thinking scares me.

Me as well. That's why I felt like Hillary was the only option this political season. Not because she was that great of an option but because of religious intrusion into our government by those pushing a far right agenda. Cruz really scared me !!!

I would be more comfortable with non-religious people in government than the other way around. Put people in positions of power whose faith is in the scientific method.

Exactly!

It is that liberal media. They are covering up another story. :sarcastic:

This kind of thinking scares me.

Me too. Medieval.

....but this will make America Great Again! We gotta go with it.

Non religious or non Christian?

Non religious or non Christian?

I'd say Jeff Sessions (and countless others) would say that's the same thing.

The fact that nobody in the media brought this up during the hearing process and no democratic senators asked him about it makes me a little skeptical that this is a true story...let me change that to VERY skeptical.

Well the Bible is either a lie or the truth . The book is clear in stating there is only one way to heaven , thru the Son , The Messiah.

Correct. It's totally based on faith.
