I really like Mike and Mike. I don't particularly think either is better. When either is gone I don't like the show as much. I'm disappointing if they really are splitting. I think it's a mistake by ESPN.

I will agree with that. There is a reason they've been on the air for 17 years. It's definitely a mistake by ESPN, but not a mistake by Greeny since they are going to offer him about 6.5 million dollars. I'm pretty sure it makes him the second highest paid ESPN personality.

He can't go 5 mins without either dogging the company or talking about how he is better than Mike and Mike.

 

That annoys me quite a bit about him and turns me off.

 

If you gotta say it, then you aren't. Let others say it.

The problem is the hour long Sportscenter model no longer works with everyone able to find the highlights or stories they want more quickly than an hour long Sportscenter. The M&M TV ratings were substantial and the Sportscenter ratings declining. So the solution is to try something new and fresh that viewers will want. That can be a more news type or more celebrity type or more analysis type set of ESPN shows.

I like Mike and Mike but Greenie on his own not so much. Also add that I don't care for Wingo when he fills in so hoping he isn't the replacement.

Are you sure that Clay Travis is crushing Mike and Mike in ratings? Really? I just find that hard to believe. I thought Mike and Mike pretty much owned their time slot.

Clay is pretty good but really just a Cowherd clone. The local station that carried ESPN switched programming back in Dec so I started listening to Clay in on my way to work on the Fox radio channel. I like him ok but he is absolutely obsessed with ESPN. He can't go 5 mins without either dogging the company or talking about how he is better than Mike and Mike.

 

It's one of the things I dislike about Fox. They are obsessed with ESPN to an almost unhealthy level. Makes them look small. I don't ever hear ESPN rag on other networks and often Mike and Mike will have personalities on their show from the other networks. There are a lot of things about ESPN I don't like but I think they get this right.

I used to watch SC religiously, now I only watch their sports programs and 30 for 30s.

At one time ESPN was my go to channel, not anymore. Couldn't care less if I ever hear another opinion from any of the talking heads. Highlights only now.

I think it is a good move for ESPN to shake up the sports center format. I think that dog has seen its day.

 

I will be interested in seeing how they format the show with Greenberg. I see it working if the show Is not carried by Greenberg. He is merely the conduit for everything that goes on around the show and needs to stay out of the way as much as possible. If the show is going to focus on him and his personality alone, I don't see it working.

But, Travis could turn out like Dan Lebatard. I hated that show at first and can now take it in very small doses. Perhaps in another six months or year I'll be able to listen to him for more than 10 minutes.

Greenie makes both arrogant and self-deprecating somehow work for him. I watch them more for their humor than their sports analysis.

I'm with you on the Lebetard show. I use to hate them, but they've grown on me. I was in the car with my girlfriend the other day and they were interviewing George Karl and Stu Gotz asked him what it was like coaching Karl Malone and John Stockton (which obviously George Karl didn't coach them) and I started laughing. My girlfriend was like why are you laughing they just messed up? I replied with, "You don't get the show." That was probably the first time I realized that I was starting to like Lebetard.
