Just remember, getting attention from D-1 progams is not getting actively recruited and getting scholarship offers from them. Can't tell you how many kids have gotten "letters" from good schools and tell everyone they know how such and such or so and so are recruiting them. We will know on signing day.

Most inquiries you get are questionaires to be completed by the athlete. That is just the beginning of several steps to follow. I know there is a big difference between a letter and an actual we want you letter.I know first hand as I have a son that is playing college football and have experienced what takes place before the actual signing.

I don't know anything about Clark, however these recruiting web sites can only rank or "star" them if and only if the player goes to these "combines."

 

Therefore a player could be very good and getting a lot of D1 attention but if the player did not go to these "combines" then they are not listed on these "main recruiting web sites"

 

These web sites are a good base, but nothing more than that. All depends if a player goes to the combine. :walk:

 

 

I could be wrong, but I don't think Stuart Hines or Doug Beaumont went to either a Scout or Nike combine this spring or summer.

Anderson, Petrino, and Slusher went to at least one combine.

Micah Johnson played in this game last season and was rated as the #1 inside linebacker or defensive end in the NATION. I think Brohm played in it as well and he was one of the top 5 QB's in the NATION that year. You don't get into this game by being just a really really good high school player, you have to be a big time prospect. Most of these players will be impact freshman at a school like LSU, Florida, Oklahoma, etc..

Johnson & Brohm (who both played in this game) were in a different league coming out of HS than the names mentioned in Kentucky's players this year. Anderson is arguably the best, but he benefits from a monster offensive line. He's not a top-5-in-the-country kind of back. Petrino may be the best high school QB in the state (or maybe not), but again, you have to know it is partially a product of the system he is in. I don't think anyone believes he can play Div-I football (size), but he'll be great for a smaller program.

This game seems to be an event for guys who are on track to be playing on Sundays in 4 or 5 years.

The top talents almost always do go to the combines. That's why the websites are better then you are giving them credit for.

The only one out of those five that even has a chance to be selected in that game is Victor Anderson and he more than likely will not even be invited. You have to be the best of the best in the COUNTRY not the just the state of KY.

 

 

I think Hines is ranked much higher in the rankings that matter as far as getting invited to this game. Trust me, Tom Lemming is a good analyst and his rankings are the ones used. Not saying that Anderson or Beaumont won't get invited because I could see three, but I think Hines has best chance. Then again, maybe we get zero.

These players are now pretty much playing for the whose who of College Football. I say its a huge honor just to be nominated, but very unlikely that any current Kentucky players actually make the game roster.

Well..........Slusher signed with a top 10 team in Auburn. Apparently he must have a few skills to get him nominated to this game. I know he impressed the heck out of more than a few scouts at last years all-army combine. I would just about be willing to bet a few dollars that this kid makes the squad, due to the fact that he is a freakish athlete. But then again, who am I?

Jerry Rice graduated high school in 1980. Website left everybody off then. I would say a good deal of great talent feel through the cracks back then. They didn't have the tools available today.

 

Ben Rothlesberger was a 3 star recruit that went to a mid major D-1 school. Where should he have gone? He worked hard and improved his stock while in college.

 

Ladainian Tomlinson's size in high school hurt his recruitment. He developed size and refined his skill in college. But again, I wouldn't say TCU is a national power but they also aren't Murray State.

 

Brian Urlacher just wasn't heavily recruited out of high school but he still went D1.

 

Terrell Owens wasn't that good in high school. He developed while in college.

 

For every example you can come up with of kids that get missed I can give you 3 dozen that don't. But sometimes kids do get missed or develop late.
