I want nothing to do with BC. I hate the guy with a passion.

I am not a fan of McDaniels. He will get no control here in the beginning and he is used to the Patriot way where coaches have the final say. I am not saying he is not a good coach, just not a fit here. I still think it will be Vance Joseph if Marvin goes. Grudens, Cowher, Dungy, those guys aren't coaching a agin, especially with Mike Brown paying you.

 

Only Coughlin has a chance of old timers. He wants back in badly, so money probably won't matter as much. I believe Mikey wanted him when they hired Marvin but Katie talked him into Marvin.

I wouldn't say excited, I like Marvin, but something was missing this year. I believe it is what is best for the team. I am cautiously optimistic until I see who they hire. I would like Coughlin.

Now I do agree in that I don't think McDaniels would come here. However he would be one of my top 2 choices and would try to get him. I think he would do a great job utlitizing the talent on offense. I think we have failed bad in how we use guys. Even as good of numbers as Eifert put up, I don't think we are using him to the best of his potential still. Same with Hill and Gio in the backfield. Then when you throw a wr like Green into the mix for him to use, this offense be a top 5 offense imo with how he would use the players.

 

Now with John Gruden I think we would have a better chance than you think. I think the fact that his brother coached here, and that it was Mike Brown and the Bengals for why he is and head coach in the nfl helps. Not many teams would have made him the OC with basically nfl coaching experience besides arena league stuff. So it would come down to what Jay tells John about what it's like working for Mike Brown. Which I think he would send a positive message actually. So if John wants to coach again, I do think they would have a shot.

 

With all that said I do think the most realistic choices are the two you said Joseph or Coughlin.

They will settle with Fisher or Ryan.

I was going to say Marvin Lewis! :bunny: How about Jeff Fisher?

On the positive side of this for a coach.

 

1. No QB issues, you have one in Dalton for 5-10 years. Some may think he will be gone, he won't.

2. Talent at the skill positions is in upper half of league

3. D-line needs upgrade but both Dunlap and Atkins are Pro Bowl caliber players.

4. Overall D talent is good

 

Minuses:

1. O-line is in bad shape.

2. Aging at some positions on Defense

3. The enigma that is Mike Brown.

 

Overall, this is a very good job and coaches know it.

As i stated earlier in this thread. IF he retires. I just don't think he will. Doesn't make sense to leave several million on the table for the one year remaining, unless Brown will buy him out to retire. That is not Mikey's MO.
