December 19, 20169 yr I know we have had threads on here before about tipping and who to tip and what % to tip. However, just today, while in Naples, a person in the party I was with said the following and I wanted to get BGP's thoughts. "I only tip (tithe) my church 10%, why should I tip anyone else more than that? Thoughts?
December 19, 20169 yr Author 20% for good service. what are your thoughts on the statement that was made.
December 19, 20169 yr I don't tithe, never have, never will. If the church needs something make it known, I'll pay for it or contribute to it, if I also see the need. I determine what charities I give to, not the church. I tip 20% in most cases, totally different mindset to me. Tipping is for service that I receive that I think is acceptable. This is all personal and I really don't judge nor care what others do. It is their money and their decisions. Edited December 19, 20169 yr by Bengal Maniac
December 19, 20169 yr what are your thoughts on the statement that was made. Don't have any. Not a regular churchgoer. Don't know what is "typical giving" for a regular churchgoer. Don't know how to equate the two; other than they seem like apples and kumquats to me.
December 19, 20169 yr I donate to the church regularly but not 10%. But I also give to other things as well. As far as tipping usually between 15-20%. If bad service usually 10%.

December 19, 20169 yr I guess my intial point was missed in the opening post. What are your thoughts on the bolded. Because they are totally different things to me. I just don't see them as comparable. Why do I spend 30% of my income on my mortgage and only tithe 10% would be the same type of non-comparable? As @mcpapa stated, it's like comparing apples to kumquats.

I don't think anyone would ever tip a waitress 10% of their income? It's up to 20% of the current bill. a restaurant is kinda one and done. A church is not.

This is all personal and I really don't judge nor care what others do. It is their money and their decisions. How do you think the electric bill, pastors salary, church programs, insurance and gas for the church van are paid? I know a lot of people that can't afford 10% but still give what they can so their church can pay their day to day bills and remain open.
December 19, 20169 yr As far as tipping goes I fall between 15 to 20% of the bill, depending on service.
December 19, 20169 yr At least 20% if the service is good. Speaking of tipping, how much do you folks tip at a car wash? Not a detail, just the folks that wipe down the inside and windows after it's washed?
