Cincy St. X 27 Cleveland St. Ignatius 20 in 2OTs Ohio D1 Final

Featured Replies

Wow what a game. St. X wins. 5 losses on the season but State Champs. What a season!

Bombers win 3 playoff games in OT.

Grinded out a state championship, only their 3rd.

This is a pretty good example of what's wrong with the Ohio Playoff system. I know I know, but if a small school was 5-5 would they get in? New Richmond was 10-0 a few years back an drew didn't make it

If New Richmond played a killer schedule and went 5-5 beating top teams they would get in. If St. X went 10-0 and did not play in the GCL and Indy schools and Cleveland schools and top Cincy schools and beat no one they would not get in

Crazy season for the Bombers, happy for them though.

Ohio did get a late start sanctioning state football championships (1972).

The part that makes Ohio state playoffs exciting there is more than one area that wins the big schoo state title. Cleveland vs Cincinnati is a huge deal. This was the first time St. Iggy lost to a Cincy or Dayton school in the state finals.

Ohio had 3 classes 72-79

Ohio had 5 classes 80-93

Ohio had 6 classes 94-12

Ohio had 7 classes 12-16

Way to hit stride and "peak" at the right time of the season. Congrats to the Bombers!

St. Francis Xavier feast day as well today!

Exactly!

Congrats St. Xavier Bombers!

Size of school has nothing to do with it as you are only compared with schools in your division. Harbins are not perfect but they do a pretty good job. Every school knows the rules before the season so schedule accordingly...

X was playing in a playoff game each week of the season and it prepared them for their final game.

St. X coach said they were 4 plays away from being 9-1 in the regular season and that they were also 4 plays away from being 1-9 in the regular season.
