CNN did a report on these employees on Monday I believe and they were all depressed and not confident anything could be done. I hope CNN does a follow up with them to see how happy these folks are. I felt so bad for them watching that segment.

I'm certainly happy for these employees. I remember watching a cell phone video of the boss announcing the move to the floor back when it happened in February. Pretty sad thing to see.

It's an optical illusion. This company has contracts with the federal government so while Trump did good in saving these jobs the question remains with how did he do it? It appears he made a nice deal with Carrier to make sure they continue to get those federal government contracts that they have. I'm guessing the deal was either keep the jobs in America instead of sending them to Mexico or you won't get anymore government contracts that help keep your company afloat.

Federal access likely biggest factor in Carrier deal

Is that a problem? I'd rather they keep jobs here and continue to get govt contracts than take jobs to Mexico and keep those same contracts as they currently were going to do.

Ill bet not one of the kids that eat from their parents check from Carrier care one thing about that or their parents either. They care that they got a job. Good start Trump. He is doing what Obama never even tried to do. Not once.

Is he going to do the same for me in 2018 when Corning threatens us in contract negotiations to move their operation to Korea or will I just be out of luck and out of a job because we don't do our major business with the federal government?

It would not be a good thing if government contracts were awarded based on doing favors for the president instead of merit. (This wouldn't be a new problem, but would certainly add to it.)

At any rate I'm curious what the deal they made was. I imagine Pence played no small part in it. But I mostly think it's small potatoes at this point.

Like the GM bailout?

Actually, it's an interesting contrast. When Obama intervened to save jobs he was a socialist undermining the free market. When Trump does it he's a patriot trying to help keep these hard-working people employed. A lot has changed in eight years...

No president has ever done this. Don't just lay blame at Obama's feet. Makes you look close minded on the real issue at hand. This is an unprecedented move done by a savvy businessman who is now a politician. And keep in mind that this move only delays what they still think is going to be a plant that closes in the near future.

He basically strong armed a company into doing what he wanted them to do by using the federal government as leverage. I have mixed emotions about it because I am happy for those folks who will hold on to their jobs a little while longer but reading between the lines it is easy to see what is in store for some businesses in the near future. This is like ObamaCare in some ways. Great headline for those who want it. Now time to read the fine print.

Oh wait, they aren't showing us the fine print yet. I guess we'll just have to trust the headlines for now.
