Since the year 2011 the 5A State Finals has featured either Bowling Green or Pulaski County in the finals and in 2016 it will be the third time these teams have faced off at WKU for the state title.

Bowling Green enters this game undefeated at 14-0 in 2016 and is currently on a 26 game winning streak as they will face 12-2 Pulaski County.

Pulaski County hasn't been as dominant this season as we are accustomed to seeing but they managed to do what they do in November by making it back to WKU for the 5A State Finals. Led by Mr. Football candidate Jake Johnson who has made this a record breaking season for himself at the wide receiver position the Pulaski County Maroons are looking to finally get that elusive win over BG to hoist up the big trophy next week.

BG has been led by Clark Payne and Jamale Carothers as the Purples look to bring their high octane offense and stifling defense back to WKU in hopes of winning back to back titles. This BG team has been called a special team by many KY high school football observers as they seemingly don't have many weaknesses. Strong offensive and defensive lines, speed to burn at the skilled positions, one of the greatest RBs to ever play for the Purples and Clark Payne talking the snaps at QB has made this BG team arguably the best BG team ever. In order to claim that title the Purples must win next week in what amounts to a home game for the Purples on the turf of WKU.

Who you got in this one as these two familiar foes meet up as Johnny Hines brings his Pulaski County Maroons to face Kevin Wallace's Bowling Green Purples?

I think we all know my choice.

Purples.

Looking forward to next weekends game between the teams of color! Maroons back on the carpet along with the Purples.

Best matchup in game will no doubt be Mr Johnson against the stud Freshman, Vito Tisdale. That matchup alone will be worth admission.

BG is just too much to handle right now. Weapons on offense at every skill position along with one of the headiest QBs in the state in Clark Payne.

I think if Pulaski plays their best offensively they score 3 TDs. If Purples play their best offensively they score 7 or 8 TDs.

Well, here we go again!

The Pulaski County Maroons have earned the right to participate in the 5A State Championship game for the 4th year in a row! That's a great accomplishment in itself! Coach Hines and company do a great job getting their best players in position to make plays when they need to.

The Bowling Green Purples come into this game like a loaded freight train running down hill. The Purples come back to the carpet at WKU for the second time this season having defeated John Hardin in the Rafferty's Bowl the first game of the season.

The 12 and 2 Maroons weren't necessarily the top pick to make it back to the State Title game, but have proved to be as resilient a team as you will find in the entire state. The Maroons will not be scared of the Purples having faced them on this stage twice before. And with Mr. Football Candidate Jake Johnson doing everything but taking tickets and popping popcorn, they will throw everything they have at the Purples. Jake Johnson is a tremendous athlete rushing for 173 yards and 2 TDs, 129 Catches for 1,613 yards and 17 touchdowns and 3 kick 6's make his offensive stats :eek::eek:. But that's not all: as he has recovered 3 fumbles on the year and picked off 9 passes on defense; taking 2 of those back for Pick 6's.

In last years State Championship game, Johnson played well with 14 catches for 108 yards and picked off a Clark Payne pass. However, no other Pulaski player on this years team contributed to the 2015 State Championship game stat sheet besides Johnson on offense. Now is the cuppard bare? Absolutely not! My favorite Maroons are seniors #28 Jacob New and #8 Jackson Mobley. Why? They are tough as nails. New had 13 tackles and Mobley had 3 last year against BG in the Finals.

But the player the Purples will try to harass the most is SO QB Wiley Cain who has played well in the 9 games he's played this year going 29-41 for 487 yards and 5 TDs vs 2 INTs against a very good South Oldham squad.

For the Purples, I could fill up this entire thread with accolades for SO many players who have really improved and played absolutely lights out football for BG this year, but will only mention 4.

- Jamale Carothers (1,272 yards rushing - 23 TDs and 773 yards in receptions with 10 TDs) already has broken the BGHS all time scoring mark and is all Purples fans Mr. Football already. If he has 1 TD on Sunday he will own the single season scoring mark as well.

- Clark Payne (200 for 294 or 68%, 3,562 yards, 42 TDs v 4 INTs) has played as well as any Purple fan could imagine coming into this year. As consistent as they come and very underrated for his foot skills, elusiveness and headiness in the pocket. Needs 1 TD (single season mark) and 312 passing yards (career mark) to tie the Great Devan Hayes for all time marks at BGHS! Impressive!

- Deangelo Wilson (62 catches, 1,154 yards and 15 TDs, plus 4 more rushing TDs) doesn't get the accolades across the state as other WRs but look at the production from 62 catches on a LOADED BG offense. This young man has been called the "Magician" by some and he truly is that. Made a HUGE play for BG in last years title game basically on his own to tie the score when BG really needed it.

-Finally, although DE Decarlo Halcomb is my favorite, DE Dalen Cofer (92 tackles, 18 takes for loss and 9 sacks) is the steady force that makes the Purple D so challenging to score on. Others may get more scholarships and headlines, but Cofer is invaluable on the Purple DLine. Remember he was THE MVP of this game last year!

SO, how will this game play out???

2013 - Pulaski runs out to lead BG 14-0 in the first Quarter; then is outscored 49-0 after that point.

2015 - Pulaski takes the opening kickoff back to the BG 10 and George Gregory (terrific player) runs it in right out of the gate. BG then scores the final 21 points of the game.

2016 - I think Pulaski will again be fired up and ready to play with a great game plan. Looking forward to seeing what kind of hat Coach Hines wears this year. I think Pulaski does score early, but Coach Spader will make the correct adjustments as usual and the Purples roll from there. New and Mobley will make 30 tackles for Pulaski. Jake Johnson will be all over the field and score some points, but this Purple team is special and hoists the trophy again 42-14 BG!

Great run Pulaski!

Jake Johnson has proven himself to me to be the best man for Mr. Football during this run (in my eyes)!

Definitely exceeded expectations as a program to get to another State Championship and this is a HUGE building block for next year!

.....

With that said, I honestly do not think Pulaski is the Eastern representative for the State Finals competing in any other class except maybe 1A.. and even then it would be a tough matchup with Hazard.

Great job Pulaski..a ton to be proud of... but this one is nasty

49-7 Purples.

I just don't see PC keeping it close against BG, I'm gonna go BG by 21+.

B.Green Varsity 42 Pulaski Varsity 0

B.Green JV 14 Pulaski Varsity 14

B.Green Freshmen 7 Pulaski JV 0

Final ... B. Green 63 Pulaski Co 14

I think Bowling Green will at very least win by two touchdowns. Maybe even three touchdowns.

Jake Johnson is very good, but so is the DBs from BG.

Didn't they shut him down pretty good last year?

They slowed him down. I don't think anybody can shut him down. He's a great player, but he can't do it all. His teammates need to step up to have a chance at beating the Purples.

Freshman Vito Tisdale will have his hands full guarding the Johnson kid. Im sure any Pulaski fan is happy to hear that a frosh will guard him. Just know he is not your typical freshman. Was rated the 2nd best Middle School player in America at the Army allstar game in Texas. Defensive player of game. Very good defender.

Johnson will get his but he will have his best opponent he has faced all year lining up against him Sunday night.

Will be fun

I'm confident they'd beat Hazard, I think they'd beat 2A Danville after watching both play, 3A Belfry would probably be a no go for them but I think Pulaski could score on them. 4A Johnson Central, I don't know...they only played 2 really good teams and lost to one of them...they ran up impressive numbers against teams they should have. I think Pulaski would find a way to beat them or play it down to the wire...maybe not.

Jeez I hate defending the Maroons...I need to start drinking again :bag:
