November 22, 20169 yr If you were calling the shots on what denominations were minted for U.S. coins and bills, and if you got to pick who and what were depicted on the…what would you do? Just for the sake of discussion, let’s say you can only have one person who appears on both a coin and a bill. If you feel like picking what is shown on the reverse side of a certain coin or bill, have at it. Also, as is federal law, living individuals are prohibited from appearing on Government Securities…so only dead folks. Also feel free to just suggest the individual coins/bills that you think could do with a change, and what you'd change them to. November 22, 20169 yr I think I take Grant off the $50...was actually thinking about this the other day as I had a couple of 50's I was getting change for. By all indications he wasn't a very good president. Who to replace with, not sure. Maybe not a person, but a fearsome looking eagle with claws up for the attack since it is a symbol for America.
November 22, 20169 yr I'd get rid of coins altogether. Probably eliminate the $50 bill as well. So we'd have $1, $5, $10, $20, & $100. Doesn't matter to me who's on them.

I'm very much in favor of coins. Personally, I'm DEFINITELY in favor of getting rid of the $1 bill. Even the most conservative of studies (not speaking politically here...conservative meaning "un-daring") estimate that the United States would save at least $150 million a year if we did away with paper $1 bills and only went with $1 coins. I would like to go so far as to use $2 coins and $5 coins as well, much like the UK with their £1, £2, and £5 coins.

November 22, 20169 yr People still use paper money? I'm more concerned with getting rid of the chip readers that take forever. Haha
November 22, 20169 yr The only time I really use paper money/ coins is when I pay for parking, entrance into sporting events, and concessions.
November 22, 20169 yr Author What would getting rid of coins mean for tax? That's pretty much the one and only reason that pennies still exist.

It would hurt when @TheDeuce would make it rain!

I don't think it matters much, seems like a lot of people have gone to plastic. Except me and Papaw. The forty or so years we were in business, I noticed a huge change in the way people carried cash or checks. Now so many only were carrying plastic. I know one thing, it's a lot harder to let go of Ben Franklin than plastic.
November 22, 20169 yr I know one thing, it's a lot harder to let go of Ben Franklin than plastic.Agree 100%!! I have said many times, I think many people get into uncontrollable debt issues because they spend far more freely than if they were actually handing over bills every time. Especially on medium-sized purchases. Even debit cards can get people into trouble since too many people don't balance their accounts any more.
