November 22, 20169 yr Kennedy .50 cent coin and $50 bill could easily be eliminated and very few would even notice. Get rid of either the $1 or $2 bill, no need for both of them.
November 22, 20169 yr I'm very much in favor of coins. Personally, I'm DEFINITELY in favor of getting rid of the $1 bill. Even the most conservative of studies (not speaking politically here...conservative meaning "un-daring") estimate that the United States would save at least $150 million a year if we did away with paper $1 bills and only went with $1 coins. I would like to go so far as to use $2 coins and $5 coins as well, much like the UK with their £1, £2, and £5 coins. Gonna be a lot tougher tucking those Susan B. Anthonys into the workwear of those young ladies plying their wares at gentlemen's clubs.

November 22, 20169 yr I don't think it matters much, seems like a lot of people have gone to plastic. Except me and Papaw. The forty or so years we were in business, I noticed a huge change in the way people carried cash or checks. Now so many only were carrying plastic. I know one thing, it's a lot harder to let go of Ben Franklin than plastic. Truer words have never been spoken. A lot of people, young ones in particular, are prisoners to plastic.

November 23, 20169 yr To those in the plastic vs physical currency discussion, how does this apply to debit cards? I don't own a credit card, but I never use cash except for a $20 bill that I keep in my wallet for emergencies. It's just easier to swipe/ insert my card type in my pin and go. I don't really find its any easier or harder to spend money that way vs using physical cash. It's all the same money with a debit card whether you go the ATM first or not. Maybe a generational thing.

I have said many times, I think many people get into uncontrollable debt issues because they spend far more freely than if they were actually handing over bills every time. Especially on medium-sized purchases. Even debit cards can get people into trouble since too many people don't balance their accounts any more. Agreed 100%. When McDonald's started accepting credit cards, their average order went from something like $4.50 to nearly $7.

The reverse sides of the $5 and $10 bills will also be redesigned. The $5 will feature Marian Anderson and Elanor Roosevelt, among others, and the $10 will feature Lucretia Mott, Sojourner Truth, Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Alice Paul.
