Just finished watching play six times. Sorry to see NCC competitors so upset about correct call by officials. When Freppon recovered (looked to me like both his knees were on ground) and got up to retreat and run around the stack, not a single NCC guy threw a block, accompanied him down the field; nor, did a single official follow him down the field; nor, did a single HC player acknowledge his action and make any defensive effort. All signs that the action had been blown dead by officials. No whistle was heard all night on the film, so one would not expect to have heard the whistle on this play. When 21 players and a full officiating crew make zero movements to support a live ball recovery and return, there had to be a reason...its called the whistle. Congrats to officials for huddling calmly and getting it right. Congrats to the NCC players for fighting to the end (especially Freppon). Congrats to HC for a well earned playoff victory. No congrats to the Breds fans looking to be victims rather then acknowledging defeat on the battlefield at the hands of a previously vanguished foe. You guys at NCC have always been pretty classy in both victory and defeat. Don't play the victim card, enough of that garbage happening in our society today.

A nice night for football. I really enjoyed seeing this game. Holy Cross was the better team. NCC likely wasn't going any further than this game anyway. May as well get to work defending the basketball regional title.

They have solid Sophomore and Frosh classes. Cain and Kremer will be good QBs, and they have Kelly for two more years with Jefferson also running. The question will be on the lines. You know better than most what will be returning there. I have no idea.

I saw one NCC freshmen game this year. I was quite surprised and somewhat impressed with the talent on the freshmen team.

My very 1st post I said the Ref's were NOT to blame for the Breds losing this game.

Didn't see the play or replay but you are incorrect on proper mechanics of the official. He blows the play dead but will only wave his arms if he needs to stop the clock. If he was running into spot the ball he would do that first then wave his arms for a change of possession.

 

I'm sure you are correct, but by not waving his arms indicated he didn't see the fumble so therefore couldn't have seen the NCC players knee down because he didn't know where the ball was. Thanks for the clarification.

So HC dominates the line of scrimmage, runs the ball down NCC throats all game long, plays great D and turned the heat up on the QB and all the NCC fans can say was the refs blow a call that cost them a game?

Refs didn't cost them the game. MANY mistakes cost them the game. Just a shame it ended this way.

That series where NCC had 1st and goal from the HC 5 with about 6 minutes to play was one of the most exciting sequences I have ever seen. On first down, Kelly was stuffed for a one yard loss. On second down, Henschen runs and stretches toward the left pylon but goes out of bounds at the 2. On third down, Henschen gets half of it back with a one yard plunge. NCC then call time out with 4:51 left. After the time out, NCC does not give HC any time at all to view their formation because they run from the sideline to the line of scrimmage and snap the ball almost immediately. Henschen tries another sneak and is stood up by a wall of HC defenders! Turnover on downs. Wow.

You are so correct. I have several observations about the game.

I haven't seen all of NCC's games, but the ones I have they hardly ever target Freppon on passes. Last night he caught everything that was remotely catchable. Why didn't he get the ball more all year long?

How does a team go from dominating the line of scrimmage in the first game to getting blown out a month later?

NCC seemed to give up on the run very early in the game and only went back to it when the game was on the line when they had first and goal at the 5 yard line.

I don't disagree with running it once to see what you can get, but rolling the QB out and giving them options seemed much better than trying to do something you couldn't do all night.

I know Henchen was pressurred a lot, but all year long he seemed to lock in on one receiver and hardly ever went to a secondary receiver. From the time the ball was snapped you knew where he was going from his first look.

Bottom line, Holy Cross was the better team last night and deserved to win. But I don't think it had to be that if NCC had played a smarter game.

Have no idea What Danville has, but they were very good last year so HC will have to play their best to win, but the game is certainly winnable.

Seems like the refs blew the grounding call in the first half.
