I think you all would be surprised how much gravitas the word "socialist" carries even in 2016. Honestly socialist is a much more devastating acusation than racist to a large group of people. I know I would never vote for Bernie because of his socialist views. I would have voted for Biden. FWIW I voted for McMullin.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda....Bernie couldn't beat the worst Democrat candidate imaginable, yet he would have beaten the guy that beat her. Okay. Hillary had to have a kids gloves approach to attacking Bernie to avoid ruffling too many feathers on the far left. Trump would have unleashed hell fire missiles and Daisy cutters on him.

That remains to be seen. President Trump already looks much different (better) than candidate Trump. Incumbency is very hard to overcome.

President Trump will be some different than candidate Trump. I never said I did not want him to build a wall, appoint right wing supreme court justices that will kill Roe vs Wade. Any of you been talking personally to Trump? I know you all are hanging on to every little tid bit Wolf Blitzer and the Clinton News Network is spinning but really? Like I said in another thread, you see where listening to these idiots got you last time.

It is so hard to say. He would have been villified differently than Hillary. Republicans would have hammered him mercilessly in capital letters with their favorite word -LIBERAL. They would have called him too old and out of touch and questioned his health and on and on. It would have just been a different set of attacks.

 

The thing Bernie had working for him that would have hurt Trump is he is even more of a change agent than Trump. Independent voters could have been swayed toward him because of that and because of Trump's negatives. But, who knows. I definitely don't think it is clear cut that Bernie beats Trump.

 

Disagree...I believe this election signaled a swing back to more conservative values of which Bernie is more left than Hillary. I don't think it would have been close because he would have been characterized as the socialist that he is, and that is what many of us feel we successfully moved away from.

Being liberal about some matters such as environment, energy and some social issues, but not economy and taxes, I am happy if he moderates his platform. However, there are some things that are non-negotiable, and the republicans need to deliver: alternative for AHCA, intiatives to restore US manufacturing and development and especially making it more beneficial for a US entity to own a business rather than selling out to foreign entities who then transfer as much of the income as possible to lower tax countries as examples.

Glad to help out. Socialists wrecked western Europe, I think telling the truth about Bernie would have been devastating to his chances of winning the election.

This, plus his history with Civil Rights, he would have beaten Trump. The rural whites were disenfranchised with Clinton and what SHE represented. Sanders wasn't the same beast.

Many traditional Democrats would not have voted for an avowed socialist. Trump was able to portray Jeb Bush as "low energy." Bernie's resume would have made him defenseless against such an attack.

Bush had nowhere near that grass roots support, and Trump didn't either. Given the ability to clarify his positions, I believe that he had a great shot at beating Trump. Many of the votes for Johnson and Stein would have gone to him as well.

He has been a lazy drag on society for his entire life. Hillary Clinton and the DNC rigged the nomination process in her favor, but the fact is he would have lost the nomination to a criminal, even if she had not cheated.

Bernie is a little "too far out, man."

Not a "Trumpeteer" but I've not seen him pass any legislation in the last week contrary to his campaign rhetoric? Personally think he in his "making nice" phase right now, and looking to calm the masses after a historically nasty campaign.

 

Let's face it, some of his campaign rhetoric isn't practical in real life (Rounding up and deporting 13 million illegals, building a very tall wall (actual physical structure) on the entire southern border & Mexico will foot the entire bill, etc.) I've listen to Fox, etc. jumping on every bit of news looking for inconsistencies and think it's a bit comical; as he's 70 days from even taking office?

 

At least he's been visible the past week, unlike his opponent who is MIA other than her fake "chance meeting" in a park--Woman can't tell the truth even now?? Let him put together a team, and let's see what he does during his first 100 days. If he doesn't shake some things up by then, I'll lead the charge to call him out.

Bernie would have gotten about what Obama got in 2008. Trump didn't win this election. Clinton lost it by being the most openly corrupt candidate, maybe ever, on top of being a huge part of what Trump voters rebelled against.
