November 11, 20169 yr Wil he have all of the illegals sent back, likehe said he would? I hope he is true to his word on this, but I doubt he does.
November 11, 20169 yr What is wrong with calling them illegal? What is wrong with deportation? Nothing. However, the idea that's perpetrated that they are all evil, lazy, criminals up to no good, is what bothers me. I'm perfectly fine with getting rid of the problems. I'm also fine with providing a clearer path to citizenship. I also would like to see just as much if not more focus focus on the enforcement of employment laws....too many employers using illegal workers as a cost cutting measure. If the jobs dry up, there's less reason to come here.

I think the thing you are missing rjs, if the bust the employers, the illegals that are working for them lose their jobs. What do we do with them? Deport them? Place them on government assistance?
November 11, 20169 yr First needs to start by cleaning out jails and prisons of illegals we have. Then move on to the gangs like MS13 who have the illegals. Get rid of sanctuary cities that hide illegals. They are illegal.

What do we do with them? Deport them? Place them on government assistance? Good question....that's where the path to citizenship becomes important. Right now all the talk is punitive. That just keeps them in the shadows. I get it, some aren't going to choose that path and will continue to try to eek things out. But without easy work, something is going to have to give....they'll have to get on board and follow the path, because there will be no way to support themselves...I'm not in favor of granting them assistance in that case.
November 11, 20169 yr Author Are they not by definition criminals? I like the way you have some solutions though
November 11, 20169 yr Are they not by definition criminals? I like the way you have some solutions though By definition, I guess they are. But I don't think it's so black and white. If you're here illegally, but are holding down a job, contributing to your community, not breaking laws (again, I know by just being here, they are breaking the law) then really what harm are you causing?? I'm not for kicking out a productive member of society, regardless of where they were born. We've got to find a way to welcome the good guys here illegally rather than lumping them in with all the bad guys here illegally. I really believe the problem starts with the people providing the jobs and employing these folks illegally.
November 11, 20169 yr There are thousands in line waiting their turn for legal entry into the country. Those who broke the law to enter illegally should not get pushed to the front of the line ahead of them. Rewarding illegality leads to more illegality. For the illegals, if they come out of the shadows, pay a fine, undergo a background check and apply for a work visa, let them stay as long as they are productive. No welfare benefits, no subsidized healthcare or housing, they pay their own way while on the Visa. Entitlements are for citizens. They must pay taxes including Social Security and Medacaid and they can benefit from those programs once they earn citizenship. While here, they can work toward becoming citizens but have to start at the end of the line.

November 11, 20169 yr The problem isn't the employers. The problem is there are so many here for free handouts and they don't work or even want to work. Our government just lets them flock in. Get rid of their MS13 gangs

But the punitive nature of paying fines etc, is what is keeping many (not all) from even getting in the line.
November 11, 20169 yr I get it. And nowhere have I said anything about pushing anyone to the front of the line. But the punitive nature of paying fines etc, is what is keeping many (not all) from even getting in the line. There needs to be some retribution/penalty for crossing illegally. A fine and a background check are hardly cruel and unusual punishment.

Get rid of their MS13 gangs How can you absolve the employers?? If there weren't jobs, there would be less reason to be here. You keep mentioning the gangs. To me, that's a completely different issue, and by lumping gangs in, you are once again, painting with a broad brush. The MS13 (and other) gangs are a very small portion of those here illegally. I agree we have to get rid of that group...but you make it sound like all the immigrants are in a gang, and here looking for a free ride. It also sounds like you're also operating under the idea that our immigration problem is strictly related to Mexico. And that's simply not true.
