Bracken County's Coach Sizemore deserves special recognition

Featured Replies

Coach Michael Sizemore has to be pleased with the stellar rebuild of the Polar Bears football program. Let the results over the last three years speak for themselves.

2014- Bears go 0-11, with 10 running clocks against them, and final scores averaging 51-6 for an avg losing margin of 45 points.

2015- Bears go 3-8, and final scores averaging 33-20 for an avg losing margin of 13 points. Could not identify if there were running clocks from final scores.

2016- Bears go 8-3, with no running clocks, three last minute come from behind victories, and final scores averaging 32-22 for an avg winning margin of 10 points. Hosted first ever home playoff game, tied for best District record, and in losing 2 vs 3 seeded playoff game by 12, was the smallest loss margin in 1A (2nd smallest was 26).

Very apparrent to me that Coach Sizemore's Bears have taken quantum leaps in the last three years competing in the same District with basically the same schedule. Congrats Coach Sizemore, your staff, and your team.

Yes he does, very impressive turnaround, congrats to the Polar Bears.

he's done a great job, and it looks like they'll have a solid amount returning next year. he's poised to have a few more good seasons

Had a three year stretch from 2013-2015 where they went 5-28. Looking at the roster this year they looked to have 20 juniors and seniors. Here is guessing many, if not ALL of those kids started and/or saw significant playing time when they were each freshmen and sophomores?

Kudos to the administration for seeing that there was light at the end of the tunnel in letting Coach Sizemore do his thing. My hat is off to them, him, his staff and the players for staying the course.

Great to see.

Saw this list of this years accomplishments floating around on twitter. Looks like he's doing some great things!

Indeed this has been a banner yr for BC football. Coach has been givin complete freedom with this team and someone had posted earlier about these jr and Sr playing as freshmen and that is a correct statement. Those young men have payed the foundation for this program to actually be talked about as a team to reckon with in district 5 and 1A as a whole.

We talked about this in the closing minutes of the broadcast Friday night and spoke of the phenomenal job Coach Seizmore and staff have done this season and the turnaround of the program. We also mentioned and I will mention here that some of these seniors were the first group of kids to participate in the Tiger football program when they were young kids. It's a football program that while not officially sponsored by Bracken Co schools but made up of mostly BC kids along with kids from surrounding counties teaches the game to kids at a young age so the learning curve by the time they reach middle school isn't so big of a deal. There have been some good coaches in that program and the results are now starting to show at the high school level.

Congrats to my beloved Polar Bears for a season for the record books and one this broadcaster/alum will never forget. You have put Bracken football on the map and it looks as we will stay there for quite some time as the shelves are not bare in polar bear country :thumb:

impressive campaign, followed them all year.

They should be the early(very early) favorites in their 1A district next season. They lose great players in Parker and Bishop, along with a couple of big contributors on the line, but return a majority of the line and offense. With success this year will come added pressure for this group and Coach to trump that and I think they will.

I couldn't agree more. Coach Sizemore is doing an excellent job at Bracken. I saw him at the UK game Saturday and talked to him a bit about the game Friday. I know it was a tough loss to take, but he mentioned the season as a whole and there's no doubt in my mind that it was a success. I'm still a little jaded that Bracken didn't start football before I graduated, but I'm very pleased with Coach Sizemore and the players for creating a stable program. It is very well deserved. Best of luck in the off-season and next year as well.
