Mr. Football 10-27-16 Edition

Good thing that people on this site don't vote for it then isn't it?

I've noticed people including stuff like DI commit, lifetime stats etc. Is that supposed to be criteria for the award?

Maybe he will and maybe he won't be a finalist but IMVHO he should be.

Maybe if he played some better competition like us teams up here in NKY have played! Ha ha ha. JK buddy! I actually just watched the game against St. X and he looked pretty darn good in that game! Is he a senior or Junior?

This season is the third straight year that Trinity's QB is a senior who is starting for the first time.

Same thing for my team (Cooper) it has worked out well for both teams. But, obviously a little bit better for Trinity :-)

I'm sure I'm forgetting some obvious Bluebird, but who was the last NKYian to win Mr Football?

I would love to see Tanner Morgan win it, for many reasons, but I can't imagine he will have enough buzz from the NKY to take home the hardware.

I am not sure about the bolded.. HAHA I would take Bluegrasspreps' rankings over the AP any day and I seriously question if a good number of the voters follow football outside of their little bubble.

As to the rest of your post, that is the frustrating thing about this award is there is no set criteria. We have had numerous intelligent discussions on here was to what we think the award SHOULD entail. Some like the lifetime achievement award, some like the best player as validated through the eyes of colleges, some think it should go to the best player over a single season window, others feel the best players on the best teams. All we can ultimately look at to get an idea is history of the award.

Typically this award seems to weigh more heavily on popularity (which ties into college recruiting), goes to an Offensive skill player on a winning team, and needs a little of the flare factor (for example Keion Wakefield last year didnt have the stats or flare)

Back to Purple88's original post, this seems to be the most wide open year in memory without that true standout college prospect everyone knows (Wills fits that role but he is a linemen), lots of worthy guys but there isn't a Tim Couch, Damien Harris, etc in the lot

I am saying this with all intended respect...

Had you asked 90% of the site to name Trinity's starting QB they wouldn't have been able to do it.

He is a great player, but this simple fact alone tells me he will not be a Mr. Football Finalist, especially if you are trusting essentially many of the same people who put together the AP Polls to weigh in.

It seems sad to me Spencer is not mentioned as a candidate more often. Most people don't know who he is because he is in his first year as a starter at QB at Trinity. In some of the biggest games in the state against the toughest competition he comes up big. Going 10-0, leading fourth quarter comebacks against tough completion, excellent running and passing stats. I guess I really don't know or understand the criteria. Others may have more eye popping running or passing stats but to me he does whatever needs to be done to win at the highest level in the state. That should get him in the conversation.

Back to Purple88's original post,

Oh no you didn't...

99% of people outside shamrock land will use that to explain to you why he isn't a MR. Football candidate. The best player in the state of Kentucky wasn't sitting on the bench somewhere last year and playing JV games.

NKY has had four Mr. Football's...

Frank Jacobs in '86

Shaun Alexander in '94

Jared Lorenzen in '98

Patrick Towles in '11

Towles is who I was forgetting. Thanks.

How much did Lamar Jackson play last year?
