October 18, 201610 yr Realistically, what power 5 best suits UC? The Big XII was their best fit IMO, no other conferences make much if any sense.
October 18, 201610 yr @gametime refresh my memory on the "pro rata" clause. Allowed the league to add teams without cutting into the existing pie. Would have cost roughly 25 million a year for each team added from the TV partners. Going to be enjoyable watching the Big 12 die a slow death...
October 18, 201610 yr The Big XII was their best fit IMO, no other conferences make much if any sense. The ACC was always the best fit for the university. Same as it was for UL. Urban campus, not some massive land grant state school. Doubt they ever actually end up in the ACC, but the cultures meshed. Was never the case with the Big 12. Was nothing more than hoping they would pass out a golden ticket to cover past ignorant decision. Here's to those folks getting what they obviously deserve...
October 18, 201610 yr Author Already been turned down once. Where do they fit? You didn't ask where they would wind up. You asked where they fit in. They fit in the best with the ACC. I don't think that is debatable. Obviously not Pac 12, they are big enough or good enough for Big 10 or SEC and the Big 12 is just a bunch of losers who don't know what they are doing. The ACC makes sense because of the makeup of the school. UC is very similar to UofL, Syracuse, Boston College, Wake Forest, etc. the ACC is where they fit.
October 18, 201610 yr Stay mid-major UC will never be a mid major program. They might be struggling in football right now with Tubs there but over the past 10 years there are few schools who have experienced more success as far as wins go. When it comes to basketball, they are one of the few programs who have made the dance 6 straight years and they are usually top 25 at some point every year. Academics are almost on par with AAU institutions as well as being a great research institution with over 40k students. One of the better markets for recruiting and TV ratings, and their facilities are better than most schools already in P5 conferences. When they renovate 5th/3rd, they will have contributed close to $200 million in 3 years to renovate facilities for hoops and football...on top of having a state of the art facility such as the Linder Center. Do a little research next time before making a comment like that. You forget I see you every day to pound this stuff in your head. :lol2:

And no matter how much you pound it in my head, it goes in one ear and out the other
October 18, 201610 yr The Big 12 will expand when it's too late. There's going to be a season where Texas wins the Big 12 in football, and gets passed over for the playoff. Once that happens, they'll expand
October 18, 201610 yr Author The Big 12 will expand when it's too late. There's going to be a season where Texas wins the Big 12 in football, and gets passed over for the playoff. Once that happens, they'll expand Texas would NEVER get passed over for the playoff. The problem is would a Baylor, TCU, WVU get passed up? Texas doesn't need the Big XII. Without Texas there is no Big XII. In 6-7 years Texas will jump ship to the Pac 12 and the rest of the schools will be wooed or left in the dark by the SEC, Big 10, and ACC.
October 19, 201610 yr I can 100% see Oklahoma leaving, and expect them to do so down the road. I don't ever see Texas giving up the power and influence they have on every decision made in the Big 12. Go to any other conference and they are in an instant power struggle a LOT worse than what they deal with in Oklahoma. Texas isn't joining the Pac 12, B1G, SEC or ACC and dominating every voting block on every decision made. They run Oklahoma off and it is all they ever dreamed of. Invite a few new schools in, make them feel like they owe you their life and everything is exactly as they have always dreamed. Oklahoma is the fly in the ointment. The other 8 are soft serve on a 97 degree day...
October 19, 201610 yr How do the TV markets in the AAC compare with the Big 12? Is there any chance the AAC could go after the Big 12 and try to supplant them as the 5th major conference? I know the Big 12 has traditional programs and brand names, but the AAC has some big TV markets in their conference footprint.
October 19, 201610 yr I preferred @gametime's Twitter analysis better than what I see from him in this thread haha!

I think the Pac 12 fits them perfect for what they consider themselves to be. They will be the only major draw in their part of the country again, it expands their brand literally nationwide, they only have USC to compete with brand wise and Texas is twice the brand USC is, the conference is more competitive. Texas knows that in this day in time they would struggle as an independent. Not to mention Texas can recruit California even harder now. Texas struggles to recruit the south because of Bama and LSU. But if they can establish a solid base in California that could really help. With the emergence of Baylor, TCU, and Houston, Texas doesn't automatically get every great recruit in Texas anymore so they need the solid base in another part of the country.
October 19, 201610 yr UC would be better off if they went with some fringe schools and created a new conference.
October 19, 201610 yr Author UC would be better off if they went with some fringe schools and created a new conference. They already did. It's called the AAC and they have been getting picked off one by one ever since it was started.
