So you think God created the whole Universe then sat around for nearly 14 Billion Years and then decided on this one little planet in the Milky Way, and only this one little planet after 14 Billion Years of pondering, God created life on Earth, just Earth?

 

I would say if we were talking about any other subject matter than Religion you would be certifiable.

I am not directing anything at you, or anyone for that matter, but that is an extremely arrogant position to take.

 

I've studied the subject a bit here and there and have come to embrace what is called IDH (Interdimensional Hypothesis). Long story short, IDH puts forth the idea that we're dealing with a spiritual system, or visitations from other realities/dimensions; not extraterrestrial visitations. Jacques Vallee is probably the most well-known of IDH proponents.

 

As to the arrogance of what I believe, you are entitled to believe what you want. But I would counter that it is even more arrogant to see the intricacy of this world and the humans that inhabit it...and then passing that off as some sort of cosmic accident, as opposed to an intelligent design.

Remember, the Earth is about 4.5 Billion years old (this always makes me think of the Creationist) and the Universe is about 14 Billion years old. My point is @ThrillVille Cardinal51 is when you consider the numbers we humans are the creepy crawlies.

 

Here's where I stop already. How in the world can ANYONE have a clue how old the universe is? They have no clue and there is no way they have enough evidence to even project. 1 billion years is unfathomable to us. Do you know how much can change in a billion years?? So how in the world could they tell us how old the universe is with anything other than a complete guess.

 

Age of the Earth...maybe because we can study it first hand.

I think we would have to be very naive and self centered to believe that we are the only beings in the universe.

Religion is a search for cosmic purpose. Science is a search for cosmic order. When I read Genesis, my knowledge of science meshes with my belief in a cosmos that was ultimately created by God. The BBT does not start with God or a god. It explains the how. Region explains the why. So, whether you are reading Genesis or the BBT, they don't use the same language, but they also don't rule the other out. To me, as I read and learn more about one, I see the other.
