Valid Question: Trinity or Bowling Green?

Featured Replies

This is from the Trinity/St. Xavier Thread. What are everyone't thoughts on the subject? Is Trinity the best team in the state at this point? Or, is Bowling Green the best team in the state? St. Xavier fans have a good prospective, what do you all think?

I can't help but ask, given some comments in the prediction thread: Do any St. X fans still think Bowling Green is the number one team in state?

Let's have them play and figure it out. Cancel all the other games going on in the state, play it on a neutral field, and settle it there. Everyone can come see the game, it'll count towards their Christmas gifts!

But, seriously, I think it's a toss-up. Depends on any number of things that specific day.

I'd go with BG in an absolute classic. 35-28, with a last drive stop by BG to win it.

Bowling Green is an amazing team, but I have to choose Trinity.

Trinity has bigger wins (Male and Brentwood) and a better score against the best team Bowling Green has faced (T vs X 35-13 and BG vs X 31-10). That is despite St. X's D1 starting quarterback not playing in the BG game.

I wish BG and T did play this year; that would be one heck of a game.

I mean, that is a better score, but is a 1 point margin really that much better of a score?

Ridder didn't play against Bowling Green and he's 100% of X's offense. Doubtful X wins with him playing but I do see a closer game.

Bottom line, who knows.

We'll likely never know, but I think its safe to say there are only two teams capable of beating Trinity - Bowling Green and Male.

When their D1 starting quarterback only played the Trinity game, that is solidly and no question a better score differential.

Bowling Green is definitely capable of it. There is no doubt in my mind that BG is at that level. I'd take Trinity in 7 out of 10 games, maybe 6 of 10, but BG could win those other 3-4.

However, comparing their records Trinity has to be ranked first. They are both unbeaten, and Trinity has played stronger teams.

Clarified point.

Pretty much how I feel about it. My bias won't allow me

to give in any more than this right here. :D

While the team speed may be comparable, the biggest difference in the two teams resides in the quality and the depth of the big fellas. Despite having a Division I RB, BGHS had a hard time running the ball vs. St. X. Trinity controlled the X game in the trenches.

It's nice for BGHS to be in the discussion but the only big trophy being given out will be at the end of the 5A playoffs. If the Purples collect that prize, the goals of the 2016 team will have been met.

I would give the edge to Trinity, but I think it would be a great game.

Bowling Green could beat Trinity if they caught them on the right night and made the plays

With that said, giving a game where all things are considered equal I will take Male or Trinity either one by 3 TD's

Bowling Green's top 8 or 9 players are every bit as good as Trinity and Male's Top 8 or 9 players, probably even a little better. When you start talking about all 22 starters, the reserves that come in, the specialists, etc... that's when the two top 6A teams just assert their will.

IMHO, it's the same premise as comparing Mayfield to Belfry or Belfry to Bowling Green. In a single game setting with the ball bouncing the right way and a key judgment call going a certain way... yes strange things could happen.. but the smart logic is on the bigger school with the bigger roster and the bigger coaching and scouting budget.

I would probably give the edge to Trinity, similar to what you said, it's just a deeper roster and that eventually catches up. BUT, no way in the world I'm going to make them a 3 td favorite by any means.

You could be right but I do think you are underestimating just how deep this 2016 BG team is.

Do you think this 2016 squad is better and deeper than the 2013 team?
