NKYknowitall
Just hearing about what he had to do to make it to the US makes this even more tragic
ColonelCrazy
Sounds like speed was a contributing factor. No drugs or alcohol involved.

nkuclubbaseball19
Absolutely a terrible tragedy. I really wonder if he would've ever been on that boat if his start wasn't bumped. Obviously nobody will know and not implicating blame, but just adds to questions I know his family, friends, teammates and acquaintances must have. Gone far too soon. Clyde
He was obviously loved by the organization. Hope we see more players playing the game like he did.
AverageJoesGym
The Rays were supposed to have a ceremony honoring David Ortiz before his last game in Tampa today. Ortiz was friends with Fernandez and requested that the ceremony be canceled. The c Rays presented him with the gifts in private instead. The Rays had a moment of silence in honor of Fernandez before the game and Ortiz was visibly crying at his loss. Such a sad situation. swamprat
They will probably have something at Alonzo High, tomorrow. Fernandez led the Ravens to 2 state titles and was the pride and joy of the 15 year old high school. He wore number 16 there, too, and it was retired 2014. My oldest niece was in the class ahead of him, there.
HammerTime
Was it at 3am when they wrecked? Or just found and discovered at 330am. I believe they were found then. Not sure on the details.

swamprat
Was it at 3am when they wrecked? Or just found and discovered at 330am. According to authorities, the 32-foot center-console SeaVee in which Fernandez and two male friends in their 20s were traveling was spotted overturned on an unlit jetty about 3:20 a.m. by a U.S. Coast Guard crew on routine patrol. The boat's navigation lights were still on, and debris was scattered everywhere.
UKMustangFan
Dan LeBatard's show on 1530 is pretty much completely dedicated to Jose Fernandez today. Worth a listen.

sportsfan41
I'm sure that will weigh on the coaches minds. It may, but it shouldn't. Not like them bumping him sent him on a spiral that led to his demise. This was an accident, a tragic one, but an accident and they happen.
