Marlins Pitcher Jose Fernandez dies in boating accident

Featured Replies

Are there any regrets retiring the jersey due to the new circumstances of drugs and alcohol being involved? Shame to lose a man at such a young age with so much potential. Not a great message to the youth and yet a great reminder to all about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

I'm OK with it, thoughts?

I'm okay with it. I hope they don't change their minds and un-retire it.

Retiring jerseys/numbers is done WAY too easily these days. Rest his soul, but the guy only played what amounts to 2.5 seasons if that much.

Originally, I guess I had in my brain that they were in some sort of speed boat, but a 30ft center console with a 300yamaha simply won't do over 50. Not that it's slow, but I just assumed they lost control. Sad story.

To no one's surprise lawsuits were filed against the estate of Fernandez.

They had to as Fernandez girlfriend is due to give birth any day and they need to tie the money up in court. From my understanding, they still haven't even determined who was piloting the boat.
