Charlotte Leaders Lay Out Timeline of Events and Call for "Peace, Calm and Dialogue"

"And now we have a challenge here in Charlotte," Chief Putney said. "People are watching how we respond, how we react. And I'm optimistic that the results of our action will be positive, will have positive outcomes. But it's time for the voiceless majority to stand up and be heard. It's time to change the narrative. Because I can tell you from the facts that the story is a little bit different as to how it has been portrayed so far, especially through social media."

Mayor Roberts on behalf of Charlotte community and faith leaders called for peace, calm and dialogue. She promised to be thorough and transparent in releasing information about the investigation into the officer-involved shooting as it becomes available.

Thread after thread, opinion after opinion the majority on here say if do the right thing(don't draw, raise hands, keep mouth shut, etc.) nothing will happen, but what I don't understand in all of these recent situations is if a police officer is so well trained in target shooting, etc., why does every shot from the Cincinnati incident to Louisiana to Minnesota to Missouri to North Carolina have to be a kill shot? Can you not shoot the hand, the shoulder, the knee caps? 9.9 times if someone draws on you(especially all of the recent black men in these shootings) they should not be near the type of shot as a police officer unless they are a hunter, assasin, etc. What's the reason for the quick draw and killshot? Can someone explain that makes sense. Meanwhile a guy in New York/New Jersey plants a bomb TRYING to kill and maim innocent people and he is wounded, but alive. Do not get it.

The FBI only wounds suspects, they take special training in hand and foot shooting.

People honestly believe cops shoot to kill black people and shoot to wound radical Islamic terrorists?

Not even close to what I'm saying. How does a situation like that end without a fatality, but these situations always end in a dead body? Is it a difference in training? Proximity?

NJ guy was shot multiple times. Several say he is lucky to be alive

Tulsa guy shot once

its one thing to stand at shoot at paper. It's another to perceive your life is in danger and shoot with elevated adreneline and an increased heart rate and breathing.

Real life isnt the movies. Police dont train to shoot guns out of the hands of bad guys. It's not Lethal Weapon where Roger Murtaugh can avoid 47 shots fired at him and he fire one and hit him in the leg.

Every police officer doesnt have the same aim or the same proficiency with firearms

It's not Hollywood. Asking why police officers dont just shoot their arm or leg is like asking why they dont they just get fingerprints off and item and use it to ID the suspect. Its a Hollywood myth.

Just a guess, the terrorist ran an hid behind cars, had cover caught several bullets and lost his desire to die. He was needing help to breath this morning, he must have gotten hit several times.

I think this is a fair question to ask.

There is a common misconception that all police officers are equal, or like robots. This just simply is not the case.

You have police officers that are very proficient with firearms and some who just struggle to qualify to carry one.

You have some officers who are good drivers and some who are not.

You have some officers who are good at speaking to the public and some who are not.

You have some officers who are really good at public speaking and some who are not. This goes on and on and on.

Officers perceive different threats in different ways. Why? Because they are human.

Humans make mistakes.
