I still agree with you. I don't understand why they can't show us every single vote if they are indeed showing the tribe mates every single vote. I know in the episode it was made clear that they did show the votes and they knew Will voted for Zeke. Not sure why they didn't show it though. Pretty stupid.

This is the biggest debate in all of Survivor. Who should win? Do you give it to the person pulling the strings, the person winning the most challenges, the person most liked by the others, or the person who does all of the above at a better rate than everyone else?

 

I am a strong proponent that the person who deserves to win is the person who gets the most votes, regardless of whatever rubric the jury uses. The tag line of the game is outwit, outplay, outlast.

 

Nobody knows what a particular jury gives the most weight to because nobody knows the makeup of the jury until the end of the game. A player wins Survivor by lasting the length of the show and doing whatever it takes to earn the most votes at final tribal council.

 

I highly doubt a player like Hannah will win, but if she does I will be fine with it because that means she would have done a better job than everyone else in the game at earning the most votes. I absolutely love the show because of the relative lack of rules. Get the most votes any way you can.

How so? Tina Wesson won in the second year and she is by far the worst Survivor winner in the history of the game. If Survivor outlasted the Tina Wesson debacle then it will outlast Hannah. To Hannah's credit the fact that she has appeared to be totally useless and made it this far is a testament to the game she is playing. Unlike others who rode people's coat tails to the finals(Tina Wesson and that chick that beat the greatest runner-up of Survivor ever Russell Hantz) Hannah has played her own game and managed to get Jessica voted out as well. If folks are smart they will vote Hannah out immediately. If she makes the final three then she will be a legitimate threat.

See I thought Michelle was going to win last year. She was friends with everyone, she was a physical threat, and she made moves that needed to be made (i.e. when she voted out her best friend). It also helped that Aubrey and Tai were incredibly unlikable people.

 

I don't think Michelle was a bad winner at all. She turned it on at the end and finished very strong.

I think it's been thoroughly proven that Russell has a GREAT runner-up strategy. But not one that he can win with.

Russell only made the final tribal the second time because the other players hadn't seen his first season prior to leaving for Heroes vs. Villains. When he returned a 3rd time and everyone knew of his reputation he was gone immediately.

 

Some people still want to ignore the fact that Survivor is both a strategic and social game. You have to get rid of people knowing that the people that you help get rid of are the ones who vote for the winner. Part of that equation is a bitter jury. Sometimes it can be overcome (Spencer pleading the case for Tony over Woo, Rob M. finally getting a win because he had a star-struck jury) sometimes it can't (Russell twice). It's part of the dynamic of the game. We can sit in our living rooms saying we wouldn't vote for so and so because they didn't play a good enough game but we have the benefit of being at home, not having just experienced sleep deprivation, hunger, discomfort that I can't even imagine and being totally cut off from the world and your loved ones. I'd like to say that I could overcome all of that and vote for the most deserving player but I can't be sure. When all is said and done after 39 days in the game whoever gets the final votes is the deserving winner as far as I'm concerned.

Slight change of subject here. But I think that is a massive advantage that never gets talked about. You get the knowledge and experience of playing the game without anyone getting wise to your game play. I know it doesn't happen often but I've always felt it's a rather large advantage.

I agree. Internet says next season will be another with all returning players, all of whom were considered to have been game changers in their seasons including some past winners. Two from this season were cast although those people haven't been revealed. They have an advantage over everyone else in that no one will know how they played.

Good post. The social game is far and away the most important factor in winning. I am not sure where that fits in outwit, outplay and outlast but it is what impacts jury votes and winning more than anything else. It is very often a source of frustration at the end of games for me because I am always looking at who made moves, who won challenges, who worked hard but the jury more often votes based on who didn't hurt their feelings.
