Let's not get lost in the weeds. Guy got a ticket for speeding to save a life.

 

Should he get a pass ?

 

I have seen some absolute craziness with people speeding to the hospital. It is a tough call but you have to ticket them.

Is this fact or just your opinion?

 

I would argue that the ones that do get caught aren't too happy about a $200+ ticket with court costs and are more conscientious about slowing down in the future.

 

Do you have any suggestions for slowing people down that would work better?

 

Pure opinion. I'm 42 years old and I speed everyday. I know hundreds of others who do the same. Many folks on BGP speed everyday. Many of us are traffic school

experts. I've paid over a thousand dollars in ticket fines over my life. I bet I speed at some point tomorrow when I get in my

vehicle. I don't speed in residential areas or congested areas. It's easy to be safe and aware on the roads regardless of speed. Speeding tickets aren't as much about safety as they are about control and revenue.

 

Again, all opinion and life experience. I'd rather see heroin dealers getting locked up than soccer moms pulled over because they are late picking up little Johnny from practice.

And I am willing to debate this harder than any debate I have ever been involved in. Speeding tickets are stupid and nothing more

than an easy way for money to be made off of us all. Speeding tickets are stupid, inappropriate and unnecessary.

OK, I'll bite. Pretty interesting point of view for a man who has constantly stood up for blacks being shot for running away from cops. Is this really just about speeding? Or is it an overall lack of respect for laws and authority?

I think I get @PurplePride92's point. If I'm driving 90 in a 65 and in complete control of my vehicle, putting no one else at risk, there's no reason to be given a ticket. Now if that person is a danger to others on the road, they should get a ticket for wreckless driving, not necessarily speeding. A person driving the speed limit can be much more dangerous than someone going 25 over the limit.

 

Having said all that, I disagree with him, but I think that's the point he's making. :idunno: :lol2:

Faulty argument, but I understand your point. Until the van is stopped you don't know if it's soccer mom or someone speeding away from a crime scene. Both Timothy McVey and Ted Bundy were caught after being pulled over for traffic violations.

Yes. People doing the speed limit and texting, talking on the phone, fooling with the radio, putting on makeup, etc are way more dangerous than someone doing 65 in the left lane where the speed limit is 55.

 

I'd argue that someone doing 80-90 in a 65 is a more focused driver than someone doing 60 in a 65.

The speeding ticket from the OP is ridiculous.

 

Speeding tickets are necessary though. Survivability in crashes diminishes greatly the higher the rate of speed. Whether you are in control of your vehicle or not, if another driver isn't in control of their vehicle and hits you a) you are more likely to die because of your higher rate or speed, and b) you are more likely to kill others because of your higher rate of speed.

Why waste resources staking out speeding cars and not houses that are known spots of drug dealing?

I'm sorry but driving 90 mph, there's no way you are in complete control of your vehicle and not putting those around you at risk. Plus, you are not accounting for the "lawildcat rules for driving" factor. #1 - look out for idiots. #2 - everyone is an idiot. #3 - don't be an idiot.

Not enough man power I guess. I don't know. You'd have to ask the cops. I know as a tax paying citizen I prefer my tax dollars go to eradicating the growing heroin epidemic than seeing the same

speed traps over and over again.

I agree with you that the government does gouge our wallets for tickets. Even if you don't go to court to dispute a ticket, they charge you court costs!? That's crap.
