I dont think Mayfield has had a losing season since the early 1960's .

I know it doesn't help the thread, but I wanted to say thanks to you all. I love reading posts like this. I'm too young to know a lot of this information off the top of my head and, although I'm very good at keeping track of statistics and numbers, I never really have a reason to dig around the internet's archives. Keep up the good convos.

There are some years unaccounted for in Mayfield's history on the site that @ATLCat linked earlier. 1962 is the last losing season listed for the Cardinals, according to that site. 1963-1967, 1973, 1980, and 1981 are missing records.

They may have had a losing record in Bernie Barre's first season which was 1975 I believe.

Mayfield was very good in 1980 and 1981.

 

All I have for 1973 was they finished 2-4 in the West Kentucky Athletic Conference. Obviously they would have played a few more games besides those, but that looks like a possible year with a losing record.

I think you are probably right that it was either 1971 or 1970 for Beechwood. In 1971 Bellevue represented the district in the class A playoffs and their record was 5-5-1.

What about the 2004 season (2-13) when Highlands had to forfeit those games. How does that figure in the KHSAA record books for losing seasons? Just asking...

 

All Highlands wins were restored in 2010 and the KHSAA paid Highlands $1500 for their trouble.

Highlands' wins restored

 

In other action taken by the board, under Tackett's recommendation, 12 victories from the 2004 season were restored to Highlands and the KHSAA will repay a $1,500 administrative fee charged to the Bluebirds.

 

The victories had been taken away in 2005 for using Covington Catholic transfer Mike Mitchell, whose eligibility was in question.

 

The restored victories will not affect the records of any of Highlands' opponents that season. The move was made after Highlands officials appealed and presented additional information to the KHSAA.

That is beyond impressive

 

For a small school especially... where all it takes is that one down stretch of a couple years of talent or key injuries... to achieve what Mayfield has is just crazy.
