Mark Stoops bans all Kentucky players from owning a handgun

Featured Replies

I think this is a prudent decision by the coach. I'm around college kids every day. They make dumb choices.

So the football coach bans a legal right of his players. Interesting. You would think he would be more worried about the play of this team on the field.

Coaches ban alcohol in-season, they ban going out after 10:00 PM the night before a game, they ban eating chicken wings in-season....all perfectly legal activities for you and I. Playing is a privilege, he is allowed to have team rules.

This is not that big of a deal. Certainly not worthy of getting on some peoples' rights soap-box.

Most that hunt carry a handgun. Also, there are plenty of pistols that can take out small and medium game.

So again, how what percentage of hunters would you estimate use a handgun to hunt their quarry?

How many do you think would give up hunting if they couldn't carry one?

I have a whole family full of hunters. They own rifles, shot guns and long bows and compunction bows. None of them own a handgun. And they're rural folk. I'm not sure "most" is accurate.

FWIW, they can still own a hand gun. If they choose to do so, they will need to find another team to play for.

Sometimes coaches can make too many rules and box themselves into a corner. It be a downer to lose a few players to an added on rule such as this one, which I doubt few programs have on their list of regulations., particularly if they are some of his premier players.

If a player owns a hand gun, or several for that matter and the hand guns stay home with Mon and Dad since it cannot be on campus and Stoops still has a problem with that? I cannot help scratching my head why he would care. Worry about going to a Bowl game this season.

Not a concern for people in Central Kentucky but many Eastern KY hunters have to worry about the growth population of black bears. Most EKY hunters always have a Magnum revolver on the hip while hunting squirrels because a shot gun with bird shot will just tick off a Black bear.

At least Stoops has more guts than Saban who won't even suspend guys found with them.

Same here. I've hunted most all of my teen & now adult life (Turkey/Duck....anything w/ a shot gun), but I'd never shot a pistol in my 30+ years on this life until this summer. I thought I was an odd one there, thanks for giving me hope! :lol2:

I dont think any of those are amendments to the constitution are they?

By the way...they own COMPOUND bows...auto correct fail there..

Didn't one of the amendments to the Constitution repeal prohibition and make alcohol legal?

Besides, he isn't prohibiting them from owning a gun. They just can't own a handgun and play on his team.

Thanks for the assists, folks!

To add to Mentschie's post (since he stopped just short of dropping the atomic elbow), Plant Manky has introduced the 2nd Amendment into it. So I will layer the 1st Amendment on top of that: Don't coaches very, very often institute in-season bans on social media for players?

If you can ban Twitter, you can ban handguns. I guess the next question is will any player ever take it to court (and expect to keep his scholarship)?
