August 30, 201610 yr The quote that said it better than I could. "There's nothing American about settling for good enough, let alone being satisfied with not-as-bad-as-it-used-to-be."
August 30, 201610 yr Bomani ain't gonna make a lot of friends on this board with his parting shot. "And if someone struggles to see the merit in standing for the black and brown people who have been continually mistreated in this country, perhaps it is that person's patriotism that should be questioned, not the man willing to stand before his country and take what's next."
August 30, 201610 yr The quote that said it better than I could. "There's nothing American about settling for good enough, let alone being satisfied with not-as-bad-as-it-used-to-be." That is well said and at the heart of much of the frustration.
August 30, 201610 yr The quote that said it better than I could. "There's nothing American about settling for good enough, let alone being satisfied with not-as-bad-as-it-used-to-be." Also, there's nothing American about being a whiny diva complaining about oppression sitting behind your multi-million dollar contract, while providing no actual change. At least consider the possibility that kap did this as a publicity stunt, using societal issues to his benefit. kap is no longer the QB he was. He is probably going to be cut. By making these statements, he does one of two things: 1) solidifies a spot on the roster. If he is cut, he will claim he was cut because of "racist Chip Kelly." Queue the national "outrage." 2) If he is cut, then, building on that national outrage, he will likely seek a spot on some sports panel, prolly NBC or ESPN or one of those other networks who are all PC, and whatnot. This was a strategic move.
August 30, 201610 yr Or he's legitimately standing up for what he believes in. I know that's a crazy thought to many on here, but maybe, just maybe, he realizes he's in a high-profile position where his actions will at best start the wheels turning on changes he feels need to be made, and at worst bring attention to an issue he feels is being overlooked.

He is in a position to speak for people who can't speak for themselves, and he chose to take that opportunity. And secondly, no chance this solidifies a roster spot. If anything it will give them a reason to cut him.

Is he just now realizing this is going on?
August 30, 201610 yr Is he just now realizing this is going on? You'd have to ask him that. FWIW, I thought they had said that he's been sitting during the anthem for a while now, but it was just recently noticed.

August 30, 201610 yr Voicing your opinion is American. Disrespecting America is not American. Who gets to decide what's disrespectful and what isn't?
August 30, 201610 yr Voicing your opinion is American. Disrespecting America is not American. Again, just because you don't agree with his methods doesn't mean it's disrespectful. Who are you to decide?
August 30, 201610 yr Who gets to decide what's disrespectful and what isn't? I thought sitting down during a National Anthem was universally acknowledged as disrespectful. Common sense.
August 30, 201610 yr We can't beat our chests to "America, land of the free and home of the brave!" and then demonize people when they exercise their right to freedom by speaking out and being brave by saying things that will not be popular.
