Offensive Schemes

Sorry that makes me laugh a little. Trinity had a down 4-5 years. That statement right there lets every one know the expectations of Trinity and their program. That is a contributing factor in your success.

Oh I get that for sure. :lol2:

I was a kid going to school in Germantown in the 90s so the time where T wasn't winning against X or titles felt like an eternity for a kid in a Catholic grade school back then.

Pep, the irony here is that T got beat in the '96 semis by a Wing-t team...the Delaware at that

Whatever offense Bowling Green is running....lol On a serious note the perfect offensive scheme is a balanced attack. And I don't think the wing T subscribes to a balanced attack. There is a distinct difference in having passing plays and a passing game. At some point; a team will have the dogs up front to contain the wing T.....then most wing T offenses are stuck in the mud. In addition; I think it hinders the recruitment of a lot of kids in the state. There are some very talented kids stuck running a dinosaur offense that by and large doesn't translate to the next level. IMO....Offenses are good when you can keep the defense off balanced

You mean the Trinity teams that put together a 50 game win streak running the veer? I believe the rise of Trinity over time has been about a lot of things. Let's face it Trinity takes great pride in their program so they are going to adapt to improve and get where they want to be. Back in the beer days the weight room was subpar compared to many places if I was told correctly. It wasn't just the offense that changed. It was how things were done. I believe Trinity has a strength and conditioning coach. When was this position first created and filled? If they ran the wing-t with the same attention to detail and level of coaching then I think they win just about if not all of those titles. A huge amount of their offense can be run in the wing-t. The only thing off the top of my head is outside zone that they would of lost. All of their passing game, motions, shifts, pap and a majority of their run game would still be intact.

I've only watched Belfry a few times and I've never seen them line up in the full flexbone (double slot). What I've seen them do is nasty split the TE with the slot/wing inside of the TE. That is a real pain to line up to.

You can still run that in the Red/Blue sets in the Wing T, and with the Jet/Rocket you have now you are still getting that same type of play. Delaware to the best of my knowledge was running a lot of zone back in the late 90's.

Agree and disagree. I think mathematics have proven balance is the hardest thing to defend. On the flip side Lowndes county GA and several other national powers run wing-t systems.

Trinity to my knowledge is an Alex Gibbs OZ team as in they run it to the letter. While you can zone block up front (I know they inside zone block some things too in the wing-t. It's in the wing-t A to Z series) it's not the same. Red/Blue gives you a lot of the same pro style one back benefits. Rocket/Jet attack the flank D/E gaps. Trinity is looking to attack C and either bounce to D or cut up in the B. That's where the difference is. Trinity and OZ is closer to the wing-t and buck sweep as far as what you are attacking on the defense.

Balance is not 50/50. It is the ability to do what you need to do when you need to do it. There are plenty of wing-t teams that throw the ball just fine when they want/need to. I honestly don't get where people think you can't throw out of the wing-t. It's one of the best offenses to throw out of. The dinosaur offense thing funny too. These are misconceptions about the game. The idea that it hurts recruiting is parent talk. If you can play then it shows up on film.

If Wing-T coaches would just put their QB in a shotgun, people would think it was the most revolutionary thing ever... You know how I know that? Because Gus Malzahn does it & people think he is a genius.

If you want to run triple option and not be aggravated by fans who whine about "opening it up," just spread the guys out, and go from the gun... Just like Urban Meyer.

Heck, if you want to resurrect the old single-wing from the 40s, and be called a prodigy, just line up in shotgun and spread guys out... Like Urban Meyer did with Tebow.

Notice a pattern, here?

Just run what Urban runs?

I know exactly what you mean though. How many fans know about TCU running 5 wide and jet when they had Slinging Sammy Baugh. How the Rams of the 50s were running jailbreak screen or a version of rocket.

Has anyone in the state of Ky been able to take Georgia Tech's flexbone offense and make it successful at the high school level?

Every offense has won championships and every offense has gone 0-10. There's no magic system, it's the players who matter.

Has anyone in the state of Ky been able to take Georgia Tech's flexbone offense and make it successful at the high school level?

Greenwood is giving it a shot. Won 9 games last year.

Belfry runs the flexbone about as well as anyone.

If you have a pretty accurate QB then nothing beats the spread offense if you ask me. Especially if you have a decent running game.

Do they ever line up in the double slot? In the few times I've watched them I've never seen them line up in it. The nasty split TE combo is pretty tough on a defense.
