Something your parents taught you that you'd never teach to your child/children

"Rub some dirt on it and get back out there."

I always got a kick out of my dad saying that this or that far-flung place like EKy or WKy was "one of those places you can't get to from here."

So I read maps all the time, and set about going to many of these places.

My parents were quite strict with my siblings and me. One thing I remember my father saying when I or one of my brothers (usually me, though) got in some type of trouble was "I'll slap you silly." I hope I didn't say this to my kids and I hope they will not say it to theirs. On the other hand, one thing my parents said which we could use a little more of today is "Children should be seen and not heard."

"Rub some dirt on it and get back out there."

My mom in regards to football:

"If it's not broken, bleeding, or hanging off, you're not coming out of the game."

:lol2:

You all are feeding into the wussification of America! Let them get a little roughed up.

Ha, anyone who knows my son, will tell you I STILL tell him that. Was that supposed to have changed?

Dont know whether you can classify this as a teaching but my parents trusted me way way way way way way waaaaaaaay to much . As sure enough I got burnt by trusting one of mine too much . You can give a teen too much freedom .

1. Keep your back elbow up when at the plate.

2. The four major food groups pyramid.

3. Religion

4. Pretty much everything else that I can recall was worthwhile.

"You're not getting up from the table until you eat all of your peas and hominy. And if you try, I'll cut off your tallywacker."

That was from my dad's mom when I spent the night with her. I never spent the night with her ever again. :lol2:

Your dad's dad was a "her"?

If I'm recalling correctly from my past research, those are:

Dough-and-Frosting group

Carbonation and Carmel Coloring group

Chewy Nougat Center and Chocolatey Coating group

Orange Marshmallow Peanuts group

My parents were also kind of strict but so were most of my friend's parents, so it seemed the same. After getting into trouble, my Mother would tell my brothers and I, " Go pick your switch from the lilac bush." Who wants to pick out their own punishment ? Of course my Mother wasn't very good at corporal punishment anyway. But my Dad was. You definitely did not want to get in trouble with him.

Nope, I just wasn't paying attention yesterday.
