Video Released In Chicago Shooting Of Unarmed Teen

So, let's say the cops are chasing the guy, they corner him in the backyard, he puts his hands behind his head surrendering. @plantmanky thinks it's cool for the cops to kill him instead of arresting him.

That's absurd. What you're basically saying is that they can either arrest of kill the guy, whatever they feel like doing.

So just show up and open fire? That seems safe.

I think the thought that he had fired on them will probably save them from being prosecuted, however I think (and rightfully so) they'll end up losing their jobs. Incredibly reckless IMO to open fire in a residential neighborhood like that.

Edit: So basically I think I agree with Rocket's assessment. :lol2:

Also agree. Rocket nailed it.

The media is by far the biggest issue when it comes to everything we are seeing in our country right now, IMO. As you stated, the bad eggs on both sides of the fence need to be identified and dealt with, but the media and its sick obsession for fanning flames is extremely detrimental to the process.

Deuce, this is what I've been preaching the last couple years. If you want to be a journalist write/report about events in an unbiased opinion. If you can't do that your not a journalist.

I know it seems hard to believe, but in that scene, it can be difficult to easily know where the shots come from. The sounds were likely echoing off the houses. Also, In high stress situations, it's been proven that you can and most likely will suffer from tunnel vision, auditory exclusion, and loss of some fine motor skills. I agree that neighborhood is a bad spot to get in a shootout but, it's Chicago and I'd say 99.9% of Chicago has a similarly populated areas. Sometimes you gotta play the hand you're dealt when you think you're being fired upon.

What I'm saying is they responded and already heard "shots fired" over the radio. They didn't know why shots were fired if they weren't there when it started. All they knew was shots fired period.

Again, he shouldn't have stolen a vehicle, he shouldn't have ran into 2 police cruisers and he shouldn't have ran. He's dead, and that is all on him. I'm not losing any sleep over it.

Agree with everything you said here.

Doesn't justify the shooting.

IMO it doesn't not justify the shooting. Like I said, if the garbage of the media continuosly making heroes out of criminals every week anymore onnational TV and social media etc. then I'd probably feel a little more remorse for the kid, but the fact that all we seem to hear anymore is how an innocent thug got killed by corrupt and racist police, well it gets old. Real old. to the point of it is like the kid who cried wolf too many times.

It's gotten to the point with me that I don't care anymore if they get shot. That is how sad it's become. I'm numb to it anymore because I simply get tired of the people who put their lives on the line everyday and come face to face with a criminal who tries to end their lives and in the heat of the moment of trying to protect their lives and others lives ends up killing the thug who put them in the position in the first place to have to defend themselves. Well I say oh well, sucks to be you kid because of the actions you chose to do you now find yourself in the morgue.

As harsh as it may sound to some, it all could have been avoided. It's to the point where the media would rather make criminals into heroes than to thank the men and women in blue who have to deal with such scum everyday.

Nobody is looking for sympathy for the person killed. He is dead because he made bad decisions.

Unless something changes, the officer who shot him wasn't protecting his life because his life wasn't endangered when he shot the suspect. You cannot shoot someone after the fact and expect to get away with it. At least you shouldn't be able to.

You can be mad at the media all you want, but that doesn't justify what happened here, again, unless something changes.

Frankly, I'm most disturbed at how lead was flying randomly through the neighborhood. That bothers me. Maybe it shouldn't.

What is the true debate? If someone is running from police there is a reason correct? in this case the reason was he tried to murder them, and was therefore shot.

I posed the debate earlier. What is policy for police re: fleeing suspects? Do we want police shooting fleeing unarmed suspects?

I think ultimately the officers will be cleared of criminal charges, I'm not sure if their careers will survive though. I think we're getting to a slippery slope when analyzing officers actions when they had seconds to analyze, dissect, and take action in a high stress, and high danger situation. I'm worried that the pendulum will swing too far back and a lot of officers will be forced to react instead of act. Waiting to be fired upon, stabbed, struck by a car, before they take action.

I blame the media. Yes, bad officers need to be exposed, but more people are killed by malpractice than "bad shoots", so why no outcry for them? Citizens expect perfection from guys that get paid as little as $25k a year? It's frustrating to watch media bias that only tell one side and paint criminals as saints in a lot of cases. I feel for this young mans family, but he put himself in this situation and can't be portrayed as a saint and that's what the media will do.

All fair points until you blame the media. Media shows what people are talking about and even if media died you still have social media which is where 90% of this is now talked about and seen.

The media doesn't report unbiasedly. They serve 1 purpose, and that's to incite more violence, because that gives more news. Period.

To me this is the only argument that can save the officer who fired the shots.
