Video Released In Chicago Shooting Of Unarmed Teen

The media doesn't report unbiasedly. They serve 1 purpose, and that's to incite more violence, because that gives more news. Period.

Again, most of the people talking about this case saw it online on FB, Twitter, BGP, etc. Media is irrelevant to this story.

To the big picture, no way in the hell the media tries to incite violence. None.

To me this is the only argument that can save the officer who fired the shots.

While unfortunate, I don't see how you could prosecute the officer given the totality of the circumstances.

You've lost your mind. You don't think the sharing of Michael Browns pictures of him in middle school, instead of the violent person he was, wasn't to incite rage?

Absolutely agreed. The media reports what brings them ratings. A violent guy being shot gives them nothing. A innocent middle-school kid? Ratings!

No. As cynical as I am I refuse to believe people want to incite violence in the name of TV ratings. It's a lazy narrative.

That's different. They show what will bring eyeballs. Conflict and race bring eyeballs.

However, as you said they REPORT it. They do not INCITE it.

Agreed on prosecution. I just don't think he will be able to keep his job.

I posed the debate earlier. What is policy for police re: fleeing suspects? Do we want police shooting fleeing unarmed suspects?

Absolutely not. However, in a case like this, how could the cops have known if the suspect was armed ? Just from skimming through the thread, it seems to me like the officers thought they had been shot at and the kid had used his vehicle as a weapon against them. If that's the case, fleeing or not, I agree with eliminating the threat. It's not like they stopped the guy for jaywalking.

If someone breaks into my home in the middle of the night, and I suspect they have a weapon or are there to harm me or my family, I'm shooting. No decision to be made, I'm shooting. I'll always choose my life and well being first. I feel like this is what officers are doing in many of these shootings, choosing to protect their lives. It's human nature and I feel like most of us on here would do the same.

Police have terrible jobs. They have to make decisions that the majority of us will hopefully never have to make. They have to make that decision in a split second in an extremely high stress situation.

That's different. They show what will bring eyeballs. Conflict and race bring eyeballs.

They report it in a manner to inflame emotions. That directly leads to violence and chaos. You can claim they don't do it all you want, but that doesn't make you right.

I'm not gonna waste anymore breath, you're either blind, gullible or it doesn't fit your stance. I don't think you're blind or gullible.

I'd love to see the data used to come to that conclusion...

You're making my point! They show conflict! What makes conflict? Portraying violent felons as good kids by only showing pics from years before they started being criminals.

Unless we are inside someone's head or have someone on tape saying "let's report this so we can incite violence" then of course it doesn't make me right. I didn't think it was necessary to state the obvious that I was stating a damn opinion.

You claimed their goal in reporting is to incite violence. Not buying it. They report the conflict.

Agreed on prosecution. I just don't think he will be able to keep his job.

Why would he want to at this point? If the city he wanted to protect turns their back on him and society certainly doesn't seem to care about him. Go sell insurance officer, you'll be happier and safer.
