This whole open bathroom thing is stupid

Featured Replies

I guess I just don't think it's stupid to teach my son that he is a boy and to go to the boys bathroom if he has to go to the bathroom.

And that's perfectly okay.

And does a sign or law stop them from walking in?? Nope. But lets just say, a guy decides one day to walk in. He discretly uses the bathroom, in a closed stall, and walks right out. What harm has been done?? You mention Jenner. Is she on a crime rampage in bathrooms?? Nope. So how does someone "suddenly changing their mind with a brisk wind" endanger everybody.

You clearly don't get my point and that's okay. Obviously a sign or law doesn't stop anyone from doing anything, if it did, people would use turn signals and stop at red lights and surely wouldn't bring guns into gun free zones.

Basically what I'm getting at, is what was wrong with how it's been for years and years? I've never seen a person, transgender or whatever come walking out of a mens room crying because they couldn't use the women's room. So why change things and make it a law all of a sudden?

Transgender people have probably been using the opposite sex's bathrooms for years without any problems. But now that Obama wants to make it a law, for whatever reason, it's opening a can of worms. Not only is it opening the door for pedophiles and such to have a legal right to be in the opposite sex's restroom, but it could also cause problems between the straight and the LGBT community if any problems do arise in the future.

It just seems like something that should have been left alone if you ask me. If it's not broken, why try and fix it? And if your gonna try and fix it, just give them their own restroom. Have a men's room, a women's room, and a I cant decide room.

Some people want to be so politically correct that they lose all vestige of common sense.

Pedophiles have been using public restrooms since the creation of public restrooms. But we are only concerned about keeping them out of the ladies room. And in order to do so, let's criminalize and arrest transgenders (who aren't pedophiles) for using the ladies room. That should fix everything.

Just because mommy and daddy passed along to us what their mommy and daddy passed along to them doesn't mean we should be perpetuating the same silliness to our kids.

But are you really saying that it is silly that our parents taught us that boys should go to the boys bathroom and girls should go to the girls bathroom?

That's the problem. Some(not all) of the stuff that we were "taught" in the early stages of our lives was just plain stupid. Just because mommy and daddy passed along to us what their mommy and daddy passed along to them doesn't mean we should be perpetuating the same silliness to our kids.

I guess some parents did a better job than others of teaching their kids what is right and wrong.

If I see a chick in the men's room, which I've seen numerous times, I do my business and leave just like I do if there's only other dudes in there.

Where are you going that you've seen it numerous times? In all the places I've been over the years I can only think of one or two occasions where a woman walked into the men's bathroom I was in and that was by mistake and they were red faced with embarrassment and quickly ran out.

Ladies rooms have stalls. Men's room have stalls and urinals. Probably best to use the ladies room if you have a question about which one to use. At least there is privacy.

I get what you are saying but when is the last time you went into a public mens room and saw a man molesting child?

Open bathrooms and open borders.

It's the liberal way.

They don't care what happens until it happens to them.

I haven't been to Penn State.

I get what you are saying but when is the last time you went into a public mens room and saw a man molesting child?

Fair enough. So why do expect this to suddenly start happening in the ladies room? And when was the last time you witnessed any sexual assault anywhere??

You clearly don't get my point and that's okay. Obviously a sign or law doesn't stop anyone from doing anything, if it did, people would use turn signals and stop at red lights and surely wouldn't bring guns into gun free zones.

I'm asking this because I truly do not know.

Who actually initiated this whole bathroom issue to begin with?

Were there transgenders asking for the privilege to use the bathroom they are comfortable using, or did someone who objected to this aim to create a bill preventing it, provoking transgenders to react in today's ever changing temperature of folks seeking a voice regarding their rights and freedoms?

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that it was a quiet non-issue and transgenders for years have gone unnoticed doing whatever they do, and after objection had risen to create a bill, then as a result of this Obama reluctantly was obligated to add his two cents to a topic I'm assuming that he would rather had not even come to the table in the first place, but because it did he had to weigh it from a discriminatory standpoint and take into consideration the laws that already exist, and conclude that creating a bill regarding this would only be criminalizing transgenders when the laws to criminalize sexual perverts already exist.

If someone's aim was to create unfounded fear in something that no one was even talking about, then they surely succeeded.

It played right into the hands of the gut knee-jerk reaction of the general public spawning conversation about something that never really has been a societal problem to begin with. Criminal sexual perversion is a societal problem and always has been, but transgenders using the bathroom of their choice has really only been a problem for them that others beforehand hadn't even considered.

I get how the general public who originally never even had to consider this topic would knee-jerkingly respond as they have with fear considering their base mindset and initial understanding or lack there of the issue when first asked to ponder it. This seems to be exactly the reaction that was intended.

I get that it's hard for the general public to see past their initial reaction, but the common sense that rjs4470 has time and again explained to the Nth degree makes complete sense no matter how bizarre it may sound to others who are reacting to created and unfounded fears of their gut reactions. To those relying on their gut reactions, they see their fears as being common sense, but in doing so they're disregarding every bit of sense that rjs4470 has been trying to explain from the get go.

If I'm understanding this issue from whence is came, the can of worms had not originally been opened by transgenders or Obama, but the opening of that can had only spawned their reaction along with everyone else in the country who hadn't even ever considered it to begin with.

I agree with you PP1, this whole bathroom thing is stupid.

Ever been to a concert at Riverbend? Seen it dozens of times over the years there and at bars around the area.

Confession time: College days---Summerfest in Milwaukee. Line was 30 deep for the ladies room. No line in the men's room. 4 of us made a run for the men's room. We covered for each other and we were super fast.
