Friends, I know some of you, like me, are fans of Rod Serling's original Twilight Zone series.

There is a very poignant episode whose message is maybe more relevant today than ever. I think it supports the point I was trying to make with this topic. Here's a little snippet of the episode, entitled " I am the Night- Color Me Black." Have a look. You'll recognize George "Goober" Lindsey as the deputy.

What was Mexi's quote? " Greed is the gas to the fire of hate."

I would like to note that that phrase has been copyrighted by Mexyissexy, INC.

Thanks. Shared it.

I think things are getting better. It may not seem that way because of the access to information that we have.

All the social media/message boards are skewed. Skewed from the standpoint that all the content comes from people who think their opinion is important enough to share with other people. There are many smart, reasonable people who have never made the first post. We don't hear from them.

Overall, we are progressing, even if the tools by which we disseminate and share information and opinions blur that.

Right now, the road appears rocky, and I think it is. Any time a group without power asserts themselves, it gets rocky. The powers fight back. Think of the 60's. The truth is that black people have been mistreated by the police for the entire history of this country, but NOW we have video proof of it. These killings can't be justified anymore. So we have one group asserting a right, (the right to be treated fairly) and the power is saying "wait, let's see if it is justified" or "don't move your hands the wrong way" or "just do exactly what we say and you won't get shot." And those statements by the power would be winning if it weren't for the videos. So it's gonna be rocky for a while til that gets sorted out.

This is what bothers me. Thankfully, these are isolated incidents.

^^^^

What killings were just flat out murder by the police.

Off the top of my head I can think of only one, the cop who shot the guy running from him that was filmed by someone.

The Michael Brown death was his own fault.

I think that AllTell alluded to this already but are WE guilty of being divisive here on BGP? Don't we automatically label people and put them into categories, dismissing what they say or think? We jump to conclusions, we speak before we know. If we do that here, of course we do that on a wider scale. The good news is that we CAN change ourselves. Everybody can.

Zero accountability in this country, everybody has an excuse for their actions. And now we see high profile politicians above the law. Always going to have someone to blame.

Hate is the core problem, not accountability. We can, and should, be held accountable for the actions that result from our hatred, but that will not erase hate. I'm not sure anything will.

I submit it is both hate and lack of accountability.

No one sees themselves as the problem, it's the other guys doing it. THEY need to change.

I kind of agree. In my case I just really want to hear someone who does not share my beliefs acknowledge that they are just as rigid in their beliefs as I am and that there is genuine room for discussion and possible change on their part because truthfully all I've heard recently is my side lost change or get out of the way,

I'm part of the problem here, I know that. As I've said many times I've said things here that I would never say to someone's face.

None of what is happening now is spontaneous or just happening. Its coordinated manipulation of a wedge group. Some that belong to this group have high ideals and want to help things, some are just along for the ride and some are taking direction from outside entities.

If you feel the nation is divided - turn off the TV, turn off the blogs, ignore the idiotic editorials that mimic this thread in the papers (obviously marching orders were handed out yesterday on this weeks 'theme').

Race war, cop killings - Bill Ayers and Bernadette Dohrn must be enjoying this.
