If this were posted of Europe in 1940 what would it say of Christianity?

After thinking about this Hatz I am lost as to what you are saying. Please enlighten someone who obviously is missing your point.

Were Nazis Christians?

Were Nazis Christians?

No. They never followed to teachings of Jesus. Just cause you say you are something that does not mean you are. The test is in the fruit you bear. So the answer is NO they were not Christians and if you study the Bible it will clearly show this.

Perhaps proving Hatz's point.

I think Hatz can answer this question. Lets not speculate on what he meant cause surely he has a better argument than you had.

SF, you should google Christopher Hitchens on Islam and/or Sam Harris on Islam.

When you ask about Islam, you get different answers because people see Islam, and think about Islam, the way they see and think about other things.

A lot of people think God is love and Jesus is love and they don't pay attention to the bible very much. These people tend to think "well, Islam must be the same, it's really about love too. In fact, it is probably the same god, just a different expression of it for a different culture." So if God is all love all the time, so is allah, and the terrorists are just radicals, confused, etc.

At the other end of the spectrum are people who believe that Islam is bad just because it is a false god, that Jesus is the way and every one else is going to hell and anyone and everyone that doesnt believe in Jesus is "the devil." They don't need terrorists to not like Islam, they are already there.

All religions have bad ideas and Islam is no exception, it has a lot of bad ideas. Jihad is a bad idea. The merging of religious and civil authority is a bad idea. Killing infidels is a bad idea. Martyrdom is a bad idea. None of these ideas are "radical." They are not crazy interpretations, they are mainstream ideas and they are all believed by a majority of Muslims. The "idea gap" between mainstream Muslims and radical terrorists is a small gap.

And that's where we have to beat them, in the realm of ideas. We can't kill all the terrorists, we can't even identify them all. We can't ignore them either, and pretend that there is no connection between religious terrorists and their religion. We have to show them how wrong their religion is, and we should be aggressive about it.

This is the most honest post on the subject I have read to date.

We don't agree on much MF, but you hit the nail on the head here.

I salute you, sir.

I believe you understand my point Jesse. Your post is a snapshot in time. If the time frame is changed to the 1930s n 40s, who would look like a religion of violence. Other times in the last 2000 years would prove your point and other times mine.

There have been many years when the Arab world was at peace and the Christian world was not.

Read many MF posts, and I never seen this one coming.

I'm not a middle eastern history expert, but if there was no wars going on during this time in the middle east, I'm guessing the region was being controlled/dominated by a few brutal dictators.

When was the last Christian inspired war ? The crusades ? Seems like a false equivalent.

52% of British Muslims think you should be thrown in jail for being a homosexual. Think about that , that's England, not the middle east.

As Mayfield said there is an ideology gap so extreme that a lot of the western world refuses to recognize.

Why is it that Democracy never works in this part of the world?

This is black and white. Who is trying to kill. Christians or Mulsims? Argue all you want. Science Friction knows the answer. As a matter of fact he knew the answer before he ever posted the thread.

By your own definition, then, Christianity has not historically been a religion of peace. I would say that even now, with the biblical references used to justify the death penalty, racism, sexism, homophobic didcrimination, etc, Christianity is not a religion of peace. Of course you will counter with a defense about extremists, etc. To which I will say, it's no different. As Christians, we REALLY have no business labeling other religions as extreme or militant while ignoring not onlu our own dirty deeds in the name of God, but our part in creating militant factions within other religions while doing those dirty deeds.

Not sure but the blessing of the Catholic Church on such events as the colonization of South n Central America, persecution of the Hougenots, other protest-ants is a covert form of the Islamic extremism we see.

Though not a war it was Southern Christianity (I.e. Baptists, Presbyterian n Episcopalians) that endorsed and gave religious rationale for the practice n institution of Slavery and later segregation.
