I don't believe anyone can blame Mercer for the inherent problems with the KHSAA's current classification process...Year in and year out schools may gain or lose a few kids & that can change your classification SLIGHTLY...A school consolidation is different...This didn't happen overnight...If you are planning a consolidation you should have to let the KHSAA know a year or 2 in advance so your schedule can be adjusted & will be legit when the consolidation takes place...It IS an unfair advantage & people will talk about it...Don't take it personally...The gripes are not directed in any way at the Titans...

Merge happened over a 6 month or so period, did not become final until both school boards approved this spring.

That's my point...:thumb: It didn't happen overnight plus, you've been talking about it for awhile so all I'm saying is the KHSAA & State Board of Education shoud step in and mandate that any school planning consolidation must submit a request, which I'm sure they do, and set a deadline for completion...That way, as I stated, all schedules can be pre-planned and you can play on an even playing field...

Don't mistake my for getting over excited or nothing. I just saw a different team out their tonight. They looked pretty good. They have alot to work on but, the there is alot of talent on this team that wasn't on last season's team. I'm not going to compare them to noone. But, since noone knew what to expect since they are a brand new team I thought they looked very good. I just hope the team thinks they can play against anybody. As long as they think that, then that's all that matters.

I am sure it was an exciting Friday night of high school football!! With the addition of the Harrodsburg kids Mercer could be heard from for a long time. A great way to begin your new program with new facilities and a "W" the kids emotions probably are at an all time high. Have a great year and enjoy the memories.

Careful with your comments. A feel good win against LCA is a far cry from being able to play with Russell. Mercer is looking very much like a team to make it deep into playoffs, however, we haven't and probably won't see a team like Russell. Newport or Boyle would be a measuring stick for that. The Red Devils didn't get there overnight....neither will we.

 

Excellent comment ntrl!... LCA is very weak... not that Mercer doesn't have a good football team, but you can't gage success by beating weak teams. Beat teams like Boyle, Danville, Lex Catholic and then you've got something to talk about. I wish the best for the TITANS and see them making some noise down the road!:thumb:

Just for the sake of discussion if... Mercer had announced a "plan" to merge in advance how would they find an out of district schedule? All the teams are likely locked into a contract with the teams they have and what about all the teams already on their schedule. Look how difficult it was for the teams that had Harrodsburg scheduled to find games imagine if both schools schedules were dropped. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your point of view teams that merge will have to play the original schedule for one more year. And remember Mercer is now the same size as Boyle county was when they won the class 2A the year before moving up to 3A. I believe Boyle is still one of the smalles 3A schools as will Mercer be.

LCA lost basically all of it's skill players from last year so they are going to have some bigtime learning to do this year. Coach Rains is smart enough to adapt his game planning to the players he has. They may struggle early on but their district is weak so they should still make the playoffs.

Im speaking for Russell, but I doubt they are worried. Mercer Co. definately has the states attention. But teams like Russell, Belfry, and the other 2a contenders aren't afraid.

LCA probably needs to fold with Rains. He really wasted last years talent, and the new offense he's trying to install doesn't fit his coaching style either. In order to become a passing team, you'll need SPEED, and a kid who can wing it. They'll have to put more emphasis into their athletic programs to get over the hump. Rains has somewhat tarnished his image by comments made about former players. He should've been better than that because word has spread and the parents of some kids here in lexington have reconsidered sending their kids to LCA and instead considered Catholic. People also watch games, and last year, he had a WR that was in the state's preseason top 50 and didn't try and get him at least 10 touches a game. Tyrell was great, but he would've been even better if the ball was spread around to some of those good skilled players that helped LCA's turnaround before Hayden's arrival. I bet you can understand that one real well Bluto.

Is LCA too expensive to attract bigtime talent from around the city?
