Why don't they host softball at a college campus? I saw pictures of the fields they play on and I couldn't believe it was at state. Isn't there a Title 9 issue in there somewhere?

 

See I don't always give you a thumbs down. Title 9 should be addressed if there is that much difference in quality of the field.

there are facilities in the state that are much better equipped to hold the softball state tournament with its current format. Etown and Lexington (Cardinal Run) both come to mind...

I know pitching is the key, but I would think the double elimination format would be more exciting like in softball and provide one last chance.

 

As a former baseball player (who loved to play the game), it would pain me to watch a baseball game now as I'm to used to the fast pace of fastpitch. Baseball takes too long to play, and like @BirdBrain said, it would take till the end of June to complete.

I went to a Louisville Bats game recently. They have a pitch timer (20 seconds or a ball) and a change of inning timer (2:30 I believe). 9 inning game done in less the 2 hours. Until the baseball purists concede that games take entirely to long they will continue to lose fans. Right now baseball is only MARGINALLY more exciting then soccer.

Yeah me too.....I was standing with the 9th Region Umps and they all looked at one another in disbelief. After what I saw in the Texas final and what happened with Johnson Central 2 years ago, nothing surprises me. Especially playing a hometown team as we were right then...."Politics"

Why not use some type of Super Regional format for Girls softball?

 

Example fields......

 

Woodford Co

Scott Co

East Jessamine

 

All are pretty close proximity to Lexington and could accommodate Lodging. What my Daughter had to stay in this past weekend per the KSHAA is a joke.

There has to be a better solution then that Politically drive fiasco in Owensboro.

While an unbelievable catch do you think this is Fair that the girls have to play on this Crap? There would of been a delay of game for that young player if that Catch was attempted on a Regulation field. This was this past weekend.

I understand the Title 9 comments about the fields for the girls, but at least the girls get a 2nd chance. Baseball is loose 1 game and your season is done in a blind draw format. KHSAA is so far behind the times it's ridiculous in both softball and baseball. KY is 1 of only 2 states in the USA that doesn't classify. There are several other states that rank & seed their tournament fields. And to make matters worse on the baseball side, they extended the tournament to the 2 weekend format and good high school baseball players are missing their summer team games and missing opportunities to be recruited. There are a lot of opportunities to benchmark other states & the KHSAA needs to wake up come up with something better for both sports.

This will never work, at least for FP. Some schools have difficulty even fielding one team. If you created 3 classes in FP you might as well give everyone a State trophy because they will all be there.

Delaware is the other state that doesn't classify and they've only got about 70 schools that participate in baseball. And they seed their tourney and have for a very long time. I'd say two classes would work without too much travel.

Didn't know they did that. I'm taking my boy to his 1st pro game tomorrow to see the Bats, this may help keep his attention on the game.
