I know pitching is the key, but I would think the double elimination format would be more exciting like in softball and provide one last chance.

Just typical for the sport(s) themselves throughout the nation.

 

Baseball tournament is already over a 2 week period and with pitch count limits a two and out would take you to end of June to complete.

 

No one wants to sit through any more baseball games in a tournament than they have to....

 

More importantly, baseball already gets to play on a regulation playing field and softball has to play on a beer league field with temporary fences....I think we should give latitude to the ladies on this one...they start out on a substandard set up anyway.

This right here! I will never understand why the girls have to play on city fields. The excuse will probably be because it is a double elimination tournament which is dumb. It should be a single elimination tournament. Most states do it at a Div I school.

Highly, highly politicized tournament. KHSAA has a response that essentially is "if you have $13,000 and meet the field requirements, you can host"...not likely to ever happen.

 

Very few venues can meet the field requirements for multiple fields, permanent FP softball fences, etc.... most softball fields garner the majority of their revenue from slow pitch leagues and tourneys, so you will likely continue to see temporary fences.

 

If they changed the format of the tournament to single elimination, they could have a shot.

 

I still contend that they could get this done at UK or UL if they wanted to work at the format and extend the schedule (to look more like baseball).....not really an appetite for that it seems.

I think the issue comes in that most college teams even though they have great facilities, they still just have one field available.

Key point....KHSAA would have to have the vistion to make a format change for this happen. Not likely with the current oversight administrator.

I wonder if there are maybe 2 or 3 high schools in close proximity to each other that could combine to host the State Tourney.

 

An Example would be here in Somerset there are 3 fields (Somerset, Pulaski, Northern Pulaski Middle) with only 2 miles between the furthest apart. Biggest issue would be that all 3 would not be at one location.

there are facilities in the state that are much better equipped to hold the softball state tournament with its current format. Etown and Lexington (Cardinal Run) both come to mind...

Just imagine if someone hit a homerun that didn't count because the other team knocked over the temporary fence. Oh wait.

Time of game is also a contributing factor. Baseball is typically 2.5 hrs per game. Softball is much less.
