June 8, 201610 yr 85 face discipline over cheating at Ohio State vet school COLUMBUS, Ohio — Eighty-five students are facing disciplinary action over a cheating conspiracy at Ohio State University's nationally prominent veterinary school. The Columbus Dispatch (85 Ohio State veterinary students accused of test cheating | The Columbus Dispatch ) reports an investigation began in February after university officials received claims that students at the College of Veterinary Medicine were sharing answers on online take-home tests. University officials declined to name the courses involved or discuss specifics of the discipline because of student-privacy laws. Punishment for unauthorized collaboration ranges from a warning to dismissal from the school.
June 8, 201610 yr What do universities think will happen if they have take home tests? That's what I'd like to know. I had professors that did take-home exams, but the general rule was that they didn't care if you collaborated, but they just didn't want to see identical answers. Talk about them and discuss them, but make sure essay responses are your own. Never had an issue. I'd like to know what standard practice was supposed to be here because on first glance it seems silly to assign take-home tests and expect students not to discuss them.
June 8, 201610 yr You can't claim somebody cheated when you give take home tests. That is beyond absurd.
June 8, 201610 yr If you get caught cheating on an take-home online test...you're never touching my dog.
June 8, 201610 yr I trust you less if you didn't cheat on a take home test in college. Haha that's a great response!
June 8, 201610 yr Way back in the day, when I was an engineering student, I had a professor that was all for us having a "cheat sheet" when we took our exams. His rationing was, in the real world, you're going to have access to all of this information anyway...but, the trick is knowing which information is critical to the specific situation at hand and knowing how to apply it in the formulas.
