If this was an adult who did the same thing, we would have the same result. They would be forced to shoot the animal. Yes, the adult would be at fault but it doesn't bring back the animal. Doesn't the zoo owe it to their animals to make sure someone getting in the exhibit is impossible?

 

I went to the zoo yesterday, and I honestly kept thinking how easily it would be for me to get in just about any exhibit. I could have easily:

 

Played with the sea lion in his pool.

Jumped in with 4-5 crocodiles in the Reptile House

Taken a swim with the polar bear

Laid on rocks with the black bears

Ran around with the rhinos

 

At some point, we have to take responsibility for ourselves. I'm not sure I agree with your last statement. It was an unfortunate incident, people need to quit making it out to be more than it is.

What are you basing that off of? How do you know how fast the kid was moving? Were you there? maybe he got side tracked' date=' and went to the cotton candy stand before doing a cannonball into the Gorilla Moat? You've been around for a while. You can also ask Pops if I've been reticent to offer opinions. Asked to or not I offer opinions.

 

Let's be accurate. I didn't say I don't offer opinions. What I did say is that I don't offer them without support i.e. a diagram showing how easy it would be to visit the gorilla up close and personal.

Which sucks. That exhibit was awesome. The additional construction they do, whatever it may be, will most certainly take away from the experience. All because after 40 years a parent couldn't control their child.

It was definitely my favorite to visit at the zoo. We debated not going yesterday after all of this, but decided that we weren't going to let it affect our plans.

Here's the problem with American society. I've heard it many times growing up from people that were probably a lot smarter than I was. What we do first is when something happens that is really nobody's fault is look for somebody to blame, somebody has to be blamed. Instead of realizing that what happened at some point in time was probably inevitable.We have the opportunity now that we know there is a flaw to fix it. It's a shame what happened but now we know there's an obvious flaw you fix it and you move forward. Why is there a call to always blame somebody? Sometimes people are at fault, sometimes they are just a pawn in the situation. It's more productive to look for a solution then spend all the time trying to assign blame.

The construction has been planned since before this incident. They are expanding Gorilla World.

You didn't do those things because you aren't crazy or an idiot. However if you did decide to jump in with a dangerous animal is it really going to matter if you take responsibly for it? Again you jump in with the gorilla and they still have to shoot the gorilla.

I was thinking about the black bear exhibit. Similar in that someone could hop the wall, and hang out with them. Yet the black bears CANNOT climb up to visitors.

 

It's a zoo. The animal enclosures are designed to display the animals so humans can observe and learn. People ARE NOT in harms way.

 

The only change I would make is to add a "taze field" to zap people trying to get in the enclosures.

 

For the safety of the animals.

Heard on the news today that people had tried to start a fund in support of the mother. She said she would not take any money and if people want to show support than they should donate to the zoo in memory of Harambe. Good for her.

I said it once, I'll say it again...if you cannot be adequately responsible for kid/s at a ZOO....DO NOT GO TO THE ZOO!!!

I agree. I just don't know who you could fully prevent everything from happening and still have a zoo.
