Again it all goes back to the orginal term of Liberal. Today's Democrats are not a historical Liberal. Locke would not be a Democrat. Libertarian ideas were more of the rebel idea. It's almost hysterical for democrats to claim the revolution with their idea of modern government being a growing central government which we fought against in 1776.
May 29, 201610 yr Where I think everyone in this thread is confused. I mean both the left and right posters , is on the definition of liberal. If we are talking classical liberals then yes the founding fathers were more in tune with that philosophy, but modern liberals in no way shape or form. The term liberal is thrown around a lot. It's why I try not to use it for democrats because they aren't liberals or understand the term. The rebels wanted a small central central government somewhere along the way we decided that wasn't where we wanted to go. The more we become like Europe the less strong this country becomes. Since our inception we have been a greater country than the old world.

My definition of liberal in my comment has always been historic rather than contemporary. For the record, I haven't voted for a Dem President candidate since 1996.
