May 17, 201610 yr rumor mill has it that the Cubs are interested in trying to acquire Trout from the Angels. My ? is, who do you give up? Obviously Soler but who else?
May 17, 201610 yr They have a deep farm system to pull off a trade like this. Question is, would the Angels part with someone who could be an all time great?
May 17, 201610 yr We need bullpen help badly and we'd likely have to give up Soler, Scwarber, Baez and some top prospects....I don't think I want to sacrifice the future but if it got us a World Series this year, I'd gladly go 0-162 for a few years.
May 17, 201610 yr Soler, Schwarber, Baez, Contreras, and Happ....That might get it done. That's a ton of talent to give up. Is Trout worth that? I'm not sure.

May 17, 201610 yr The Cubs already have a solid lineup, this would just make it unfair haha! I'm far from a Cubs fan, but I'd like to see them get it done this year...without Trout.

I remember back in the early 70's when Reds tried to get Vida Blue. Bowie Kuhn put the brakes on that one. Kuhn and Charlie Finley(Oakland A's owner) had a running feud.
May 17, 201610 yr This is an idea that I tossed around in the Mike Trout/Angels article thread. As a Cubs fan it definitely intrigues me. They certainly have the assets to do it while still being able to be a championship contender. Like some have said, they have Soler, Schwarber, and Baez off of their big league team (I could only see them ditching two out of those three but not all of them). Then they have Top 20 minor league guys such as Contreras, Happ, Torres, and others. I feel like they could put a package together that would get it done, and still have enough to, well.... get it done.

May 17, 201610 yr How about this: Trout has never played a full season in MLB without either winning the MVP or finishing in 2nd place.

They don't have a top 20 prospect according to either Baseball America or MLB Pipeline. Torres is their top one according to BA @ #41 overall, and #25 according to MLB Pipeline.
May 17, 201610 yr Schwarber isn't going anywhere. They could get Trout without parting with him You're getting the best player in the game, they can afford to part with Schwarber. Otherwise they'd have to deplete their farm system to get him.
