School Bomb Threats, What should the penalty be?

Featured Replies

School in Northern Cincy had one every day last week, my wifes school had one today. What should the penalty be for those (even if its a minor) that call/email/text a bomb threat in?

90 days in jail...

That's what the Prosecutor in the Ohio Schools did, said he would go for 90 days in jail, and if juvenile, 90 days in detention facility.

Saw a quote where one of the ones who facebooked in a bomb threat from the ohio school was 12 and the parents pleaded to not have her thrown in detention facility that they would "take away her electronics for 90 days."

We used to have them quite a bit when I was a freshmen in high school. They threatened to take away spring break and those ended real quick.

As for the personal calling them in, I think 90 jail time seems sufficient if it is the first occurrence.

For an adult 90 days sounds good. For a minor I would lean more towards 30 days assuming it would be an actual 30 days to serve.

Jails and courts play all kinds of games when it comes to looking tough on crime but not really wanting to or having the space to lock people up very long.

Adults 90 days in jail is fine. For juveniles, it would depend on their age. 14 and up detention center for 30 days, 13 and under suspension for 10 days or alternative placement for 30 days, if an available.

Yes, this is the kind of applied logic I am talking about.

Eliminate the Threat!

I do agree it is domestic terrorism, yes.

I think "take away her electronics period". The cell phone, iPad, notebook every & anything that had been used should be given to the authorities. All accounts closed email, Facebook, Twitter etc to the satisfaction of the court & must be documented. After 90 days in jail or juvenile detention must do 1 year of community service on weekends to be determined by the judge. If any school is missed must be made up in summer school. They should be informed that this will be part of their permanent record forever. Bomb threats are serious business so too should be the penalty.

Not sure 90 days for an adult is enough to be honest. Calling in a bomb threat is a serious deal...an adult should know better.

And another alternative to jail...120 days/nights in a half way house with electronic monitoring...days spent on road crews picking up trash/dead animals, cutting grass, road repair, etc. Working, and actually WORKING hard. I would say "chain gang" but I don't think they actually do those any more, but would be in favor of it.
