Artist's Most Iconic Song

Featured Replies

Frank Sinatra's most iconic song is "New York, New York."

Iconic doesn't mean "best" or " best-selling."

In this case we're talking about THE song most people associate the artist with - like Sinatra and NY NY.

So tell us which song you think is THE iconic song for:

Prince

Bruce

Michael Jackson

I think Bruce is easy: "Born in the U.S.A."

For Prince I'd go with "Purple Rain".

Michael Jackson... "Thriller."

Maybe the choices will be generational. I don't see most 40+ folks saying "Born In The USA" for Bruce. I'd say "Born To Run."

Prince is a big tougher for me. Again, maybe generational. I say "1999" for him.

We may agree on MJ.

Bruce - Born to Run

Prince - 1999

Michael Jackson - Beat It

That may be the case. Born to Run is hugely popular and, I think, a much better track. But Born in the USA has been playing over the loudspeaker in stadiums on a consistent basis for my entire life. It was probably the first Springsteen song I ever heard and I'd wager it's probably the one I've heard most recently.

Prince ... Purple Rain

Michael ... Thriller

Bruce ... Born in the USA

I am going with the songs that almost immediately came to mind on each. Then as I thought about it it seems like those were the right fits

Warren Zevon- I'd say "Werewolves of London." That's a bit unfortunate since he's had many songs that are much better.

Elton John, probably "Rocket Man." Though a lot of people may differ.

Reading comprehension is not your strong suit, I'd say....:ohbrother:

Prince-1999

Boss- born to run

MJ- Beat it.

Agreed.

I think for Springsteen fans, the more iconic song is Born To Run, but for the run-of-the-mill radio listener, it's probably Born In The USA.

I assume you mean MY idea of what is iconic, and not what I think OTHERS think of as the iconic songs?

Prince: 1999 or Raspberry Beret

Bruce: Either Born to Run or Tenth Avenue Freeze Out

Michael: Beat It or Thriller

Whenever I hear Sinatra's name "New York, New York" has never entered my mind. (Although it is my ringtone).

Prince-Little Red Corvette

Bruce-Born to Run

Michael-Man in the Mirror
