There needs to be a path to citizenship but they can't be awarded by having broke our immigration laws. They should not have access to programs that are for our citizens if they are illegal. Why should they be allowed to have access to SNAP, welfare, etc.? They have not paid into any of these systems.

 

I don't know what all of the correct answers are. They need to pay a hefty fine or be deported if they refuse to do that. They then need to be placed behind those that are immigrating legally.

Did you read the article that this thread is about? With this proposal, these people would only qualify for earned benefits, ones that they've paid into and have to build up over time. They would NOT be eligible for SNAP or welfare.

As for the thread title and why voters are angry and willing to consider Trump...I am one of them. I think most Americans are appalled that we have just given up protecting our southern border. Border agents are basically being told to let people go now. The Dem establishment encourages this for ONE reason and one reason only. They want the illegals to be able to vote eventually. That is why they want the "path to citizenship". If the Dems thought 80-90% of illegal immigrants would vote Republican, they would not be fighting so hard to let them in and stay in the US...that is just a fact.

 

As far as the R establishment, they only give lip service to protecting the border but really don't fight for it because they have R business owners lobbying them because they want the cheap labor. The result, the D and R establishment basically get what they want and the people get the shaft. Wash DC could not care less about the mess this causes in Arizona, California and Texas. They simply DO NOT care.

 

Now Trump comes along and actually makes this his primary issue and taps into what the silent majority really think. The establishment is scared to death of him because he would probably actually do it and have the support of much of the country. Therefore, both the D and R establishment believe he MUST be stopped.

What is the period they should have to pay in for before they are eligible?

 

The wall would be a good start. I would rather spend those billions on that instead of giving it to foreign countries that harbor terrorists and hate us.

I am not doubting whether Trump has used illegal immigrants - I am sure he has as just about anyone who employs 10's of thousands of people most likely has. I only care about what he WOULD DO about the problem. The first thing we have to do IMO is STOP the flow of illegals coming in and NOBODY on either side has done it yet. I think Trump would or at least do a much better job than is being done now.

Sure they do. That's why they have lied to the minority population for decades. Promising them the world while keeping their foot on their head to keep them from succeeding. The Dems have been the biggest obstacle to minorities getting ahead in America.

Here is a list of polls completed over the past couple years. Neither the silent majority nor the majority as a whole favor deportation policies or wall building. Actually, it is the vocal minority (about one quarter to one third of voters) who support those policies, about the same number of people in the electorate who support Trump.

The majority of people want a path to citizenship and do not want a wall. One thing I found ironic as I looked through these polls is it seems people have become more tolerant on immigration policy and more favorable toward a path to citizenship over the past two years while Trump has sprung to his prominence leading with comments that are becoming less popular.

Articles like the above are obviously not the Gospel, but they provide an educated evaluation of the changing population of the United States. The youth support of Bernie is another example. Even if these young voters moderate they will still be left.
