1964. First time I recall hearing that the Republican party was dead. Have heard the same argument applied to both parties more times than I can remember over the years. The fact remains that the party holding the White House for very long will eventually screw it up enough to turn voters back the other way.

 

As for current conditions, the republicans hold the senate, the house, almost 2/3 of the governor mansions and about 60 percent of state legislatures. They lead in states where they hold all three branches 24-7.

Dems don't need a larger voting block. Repubs keep pushing people left.

 

I'd say the exact opposite is true. The general population is becoming more liberal and it is pushing the GOP left. The problem is that liberal policies lead to job stagnation and wage depression that forces more dependence on public aide even from those who are working. Free Trade, War on Drugs, Radical EHS regulation, Open Borders, Guest Worker programs lead directly to job stagnation, or, excessive costs that indirectly stagnate jobs.

I believe that someone who would ignore the laws of our country would not be opposed to fraudulently obtaining benefits.

 

But don't you know that we MUST put up with the frauds and cheats because if we start cracking down on them it MAY have a negative impact on people with legitimate and legal needs.

Kids today are starting to fear automation. It is a legit concern in 25 years, that's why some are drifting toward socialism.

Here is a list of polls completed over the past couple years. Neither the silent majority nor the majority as a whole favor deportation policies or wall building. Actually, it is the vocal minority (about one quarter to one third of voters) who support those policies, about the same number of people in the electorate who support Trump.

 

Immigration

 

The majority of people want a path to citizenship and do not want a wall. One thing I found ironic as I looked through these polls is it seems people have become more tolerant on immigration policy and more favorable toward a path to citizenship over the past two years while Trump has sprung to his prominence leading with comments that are becoming less popular.

 

I agree that very many are open to a path to citizenship...now there is a TON of disagreement with what the path entails. I also believe that more people than not want the border secure...and right now we basically have an open border. Whether it is with a wall, more agents on the border or a combination of both, more people than not in this country want the border secure.
