Once he entered 9th grade he couldn't just change his legal guardian and move somewhere else, but moving in with his parents is a different situation. You think the KHSAA is going to penalize a kid for moving back in with his parents?

 

You don't know the circumstance why he left to move there to begin with, I dont either and maybe was nothing but you never know why coming to Taylor was a better situation for him at the time and why moving back won't be better now.

CHANGE IN SOLE CUSTODY- The KHSAA shall not recognize

guardianship or similar arrangements made, for purposes

of this bylaw. The period of ineligibility may be waived if it is

shown that custody of the student has been taken from one or

both parents and given to the other parent or a third person

by a court of competent jurisdiction and under circumstances

indicating: (1) the parent(s) are unfi t or (2) the court fi nds that

the health and welfare of the student would be better served by

the change in custody. The grant of this waiver shall only apply to the member school in the school district in which the residence of the custodial parent

is located. Determinations of whether a student shall be granted a waiver

pursuant to this exception shall be based on the circumstances

existing as of the date of enrollment at the new school.

Appears he is also switching AAU teams to play for the Louisville Magic.

It should be interesting to see how they handle the coming years transfers. I heard last night, there are a couple of other Louisville kids on the move next year, they both are top tier players. At this point just kids talking about what they have heard, but kids pretty close to the situation. I guess we'll just have to see if the merry

 

It will continue you can bet on it. the same thing is going on with girls basketball as well maybe worse and its a shame because it doesn't make it an even playing field when all these kids and transfer for varies reason and some are legit reasons but a lot are ridiculous and KHSAA lets it go on.

I find this very hard to believe honestly. Any student-athlete that has made a name for themselves & is recognized as being a varsity member of school A will not be able just to go & play for school B without the KHSAA approving the transfer. I know that this state is crazy about basketball @ all levels, but it still isn't the wild west where we can do whatever we want. The public would police this better than anyone & before the ink is dry on an enrollment sheet, someone would have dropped a dime on them & called the powers that be.

 

It doesn't matter in Jefferson county kids move schools all the time without moving their address. I'm told the KHSAA can't manage it so they've given up..

I don't know the rules and EVERYTHING might be legal as legal can get. It just seems funny to me that he decides he's homesick and misses his parents once Goodin graduates. Also if parents live in the Moore district shouldn't that be were he attends school besides Ballard?

If a kid transfers out of Louisville and moves on to a team out in the state like- Mercer Co, Boyle Co.- nobody on this site really blinks an eye. If he transfers from Taylor Co. to Ballard- you're ready to rule him ineligible. Please...

Unfortunately, @Basketballfan2 is right. Just by reading articles online in the CJ, you can see where kids are transferring at will. Doss had ton (to and from), J'town, Moore, PRP, Fern Creek, Ballard, and on and on and on.

 

It's becoming a joke. HS coaches are more worried about who they can get in from wherever than developing a strong, consistent program. Jefferson County has let this happen, KHSAA has let it happen, parents, coaches, AAU frontmen...you name it.

I give the KHSAA credit for what they get done with the limited resources they have with the commissioner, 4 associate commissioners 5 administrative assistants, & a few other staff (staff attorney, communications, IT media, etc.... to do what they are able to do at the moment. When full implementation of the Middle Schools comes under their scope, who knows what they are going to do at that point.

 

All in all, they have 2 associate commissioners that handle ALL of the transfers throughout the entire state, 1 handles Regions 1-8 & the other does 9-16. They go with what they receive from the sending & receiving schools with each transfer. The sending school can include as much evidence as it wants to include in a transfer if they want to contest a transfer if they feel that it is being done for athletic advantage.

Then the sending school is not doing their due diligence with their end of the paperwork on the transfers then if it is seen as "at will"

 

I'm just saying its pretty simple to do these days & I am talking about paying attention to the details. In my former life as an AD, I included social media posts or emails in transfer paperwork on student-athletes who were boasting about leaving school A to transfer to school B because 1) I'm not getting enough playing time, 2) the coach of the school B team was my summer coach, 3) emails from parents saying they were going to leave our school to play @ another school....

A change in residency will get him eligible. The key is where his residency was. I know he lived in Taylor C. with the coach but what was on his records.

I hope he is ruled eligible. If he wants to go live with his parents for his senior year after not living with them for his first three years of high school then I hope it works out for him.

 

Does it look strange and funny now that Goodin is leaving? Sure. If he wants to play in front of his mom for his last year of high school then I hope it works out for him. I don't know his family situation. If his grades are good enough for him to play then I hope he is on the court next season.

 

Folks would lose their mind if Taylor County arranged for his parents to move to Campbellsville to watch him play. Folks are losing their mind for him to go home and play in front of his parents.

I know exactly what the situation was. They told the story that it was to dangerous to live where they were and the coach was a father figure and he would be better off living with him. Funny how that changes the instant his running mate is gone.
