He is one of best high school shooters that I have seen. From a shooting standpoint he has to rank as one of best in the state. As we saw at state he can't create his own shot and was somewhat of a non factor. He doesn't handle the ball very well and I don't see how he could guard a perimeter player in college at the NAIA level much less D-1 and don't think at 6'3/6'4 that he would play the post in college. He averaged a double double since 8th grade and scored 1,500 points thru sophomore year at Sheldon Clark and I had never heard of him until he came to Mercer. Seems like 15th region doesn't get as much exposure as other regions throughout the state. There may always be a spot for a knock down shooter at the college level I just wonder about the rest of his game.

Correct. There has always been great talent in the 15th Region. I have been saying this for sometime now. Here is a 2 part trivia question. What region has had the most Mr. Basketball's? Can you name all the Mr. Basketball's from the 15th Region?

JR Van Hoose

Elisha Justice

That's all I got.

He reminds me of a player that played at Boyle County named Derrick Springate.

Todd May, Ervin Stepp, John Pelphrey

If he's as good as Derek was, then he's a heck of a player. Springate was a terrific player, one of those guys who didn't look like the best athlete, but ended up with 25 and 12 every night.

Mr. Basketball's from the 15th:

Trey James, Dylan's little bro. Is 6'8", in shoes, as measured by his PE teacher this year. He and my son are friends/classmates and he will be going in to 8th grade. Both of these young men are great guys! My family and I wish them the best next year at Sheldon Clark

Ervin Stepp was a bad dude. If this guy could be as good as Ervin or Todd May, I'll jump on the bandwagon.

No disrespect to James, he's a great high school player, but you're talking about two of the all-time mountain legends.

Dylan is a really good high school basketball player. He is what I would call a great spot up shooter and has a nose for the basketball. He is also a GREAT KID from a very good family.

On the flip side he is somewhat of a betweener for me. He is not a post player with his size but not a wing with his athleticism when looking at the next level IMO. He has solid size but is a little slow of foot and can struggle getting open looks against athletic opponents.

I don't think he will make a serious run at Mr. Basketball but I do think he will be the best player in the 15tn region next year and one of the better high school players in the state even if he is not a great college prospect.

Just curious why did he transfer to Mercer Co for 1 yr if he is heading back to Sheldon Clark already?

If I'm not mistaking, his dad got a job in Mercer County but then ended up with a job back in Inez.

His dad put in for the superintendent job in Martin County last year and expected to get that job. He was passed over for the job and the family left Martin County for the same job at Mercer County. After the person who got the superintendent job in Martin County for 2015-16 recently left that post his dad put in for the Martin County superintendent job again and finally got the job he wanted in the first place and the family is headed back home.

I am a big fan of Dylan and his family. I wish them the best. He is one of the best shooters I have seen since Chris Lofton. I am admittedly no basketball expert, but I was impressed with him. He is a nice young man also.
